I think it's underrated.
I think it's a 5/10, that people love to rare 1/10. It's the polar opposite of "crazy rich asians" which is now my vote for the worst film of all time, having recently watched both.
The room has the worst acting you'll ever seen and production values right off a 90's VHS handheld recorder. But, the script is fine, the characters are above average and the dialogue only seems awful because of the acting. Compare that to crazy rich asians which is acted well and looks great, but is fundamentally drivel with the most uninteresting dialogue and plot imaginable.
I actually was interested to see how the room would end, unlike crazy rich asians which i couldn't wait to end. Lisa has an interesting character which does develop.
I guess it comes down to whether you'd rather see a decent story with horrendous acting. Or good actors in a beautiful setting, talking like aliens with no story. |

"Fun fact about the room: the reason two of the sex scenes are the same is because Tommy was so damn creepy, Lisa refused to film the second one with him "
He is one creepy looking fellow for sure.
Another fun fact regarding the movie is that when quizzed as regards his um, somewhat less than stellar thespian skills, Tommy responded that he deliberately overacted in order to make a point. Quite as regards what exactly this ‘point’ was however, I am unsure and would furthermore wager that in actuality, he is in fact, more than likely talking out of his bottom.
The film, The Disaster Artist chronicles the making of The Room and stars James Franco in the role of Wiseau but I’m afraid I haven’t seen it yet.
From what I’ve also read though, Tommy isn’t an easy guy to get along with.... |

That's the other amazing part of the room, after you've experienced it there's a mysterious back story to try and unwrap! Nobody really knows how it was funded or how the fuck they spent $6m producing something that looks homemade. Apparently Tommy thought he had what it takes to become a big time actor so he just needed one film to show case his... ahem... talent. But he also wrote the script and it's really not that bad at all.
He's certainly not easy to get along with. He fired one of the actors mid way through and replaced him! |

I'm not a fan of Franco either. He strikes me as an obnoxious twat. However... Tommy was also a very very weird obnoxious twat. So the casting is genius. Franco is absolutely perfect for the role. He nailed it |

"i really need to read the book. The disaster artist film doesn't do it justice.
He's a walking bermuda triangle of whatthefuckery.

Why would you want to read the book? don't you want to see the best bad acting ever?

On the relevant subject of bad movies and the name, Franco, has anyone here ever suffered the misfortune of sitting through any of director, Jess Franco’s movies?
Copious nudity aside and bar one or two exceptions (his version of Dracula starring Christopher Lee, Herbert Lom and Klaus Kinski was not too bad) they are generally bloody awful - and he’s directed hundreds of the damned things |

No but if you go on IMDB and see what else 'lisa' has done then it's like a list of films you're glad you missed. |

Hi doggie"
The 'disaster artist'is greg sestero's memoirs of what it was like to act in 'the room' and provides far more tea on tommy's on-set behaviour and private moments than the film elaborates on |
