"Get up earlier?! Nay sir....good God nay!!!! "
As we know time is an artificial concept.. so if we changed our habits we won’t feel that we are waking up early..
Wake up with sunrise and go to bed when it gets dark |

No, if anything we need to abolish the idea of fixed start times and embrace more flexibility. "
At work? |

Schools should be the priority. The scientific evidence is overwhelmingly clear that making teenagers start at 9am damages their brains. |

If you started your day earlier you will have daylight left in the evenings to do things after work and for kids to play out |

You gain that time in summer.. we lose 2-3 hours of daylight in the summer mornings |

How strange it didn't damage their brains before this current generation then.
God help those of those who did school in the late 50's and started work/college back in the 1960s.
Must have been the biggest coincidence/massive overdose of luck that enabled all those people to function and work in electronics/engineering/design etc. whilst also building their technical skill sets at Tech College on day release.
At 17 my "day release"(and that of thousands of others) consisted of getting up at 0700 to wash, shave, have breakfast, walk a mile to catch a bus just after 8 to be in Tech by 9 for a full 12 hour day of lectures/labs from which you'd also cop a load of homework and lab reports to write up for next week in the spare time left over after you'd done the remaining 4 days at work.
Yeah, starting at 9 fuddles their brains is somewhere up there along with sightings of Unicorns.
Maybe if they got of the electronic procrastination machines that they're glued to until the wee small hours they'd be better equipped to face the day.

It's very straight forward, when you fall asleep is a function of your circadian rhythm and neuromodulators like adenosine. There's a reason nobody suggests babies get up at 7am and only sleep 8 hours per 24, because they need more. Likewise, it's just a fact that puberty causes a delayed circadian rhythm which means teenagers lose valuable REM sleep when they wake up too early. Franky, if you've never observed teenagers preference to staying up late and getting up late then i don't know which planet you've been living on. |

"If you've never observed teenagers preference to staying up late and getting up late then i don't know which planet you've been living on.
Whoopee, I must still be a teenager then "
About 40% of adults have the preference and it's largely genetic. Blame your parents. |

Well I would, but ma Mam passed away in 1969, and ma Dad in 1984.
I'm 56 and have always been a night owl, I don't consider it to be a preference though, it can be a pain in the arse sometimes. |

No need, in the West country we invented this thing called electrickery and light sticks, so we can all be places at the same time can make night day, they are still working on making day night though. |

I'm a night owl too, hence why i researched the science behind it. Now I'm just bitter at a world that wants to start at 9am for anti-scientific reasons. |

Usually finish somewhere between midnight and 2am, sometimes hit the gym afterwards. I'm not a night worker in the sense of working through the whole thing, but just a night owl, my brain doesn't really function in the morning. |

That's how I deal with fucking 9am starts. Red Bull on the way in and a top up at lunch time. Then glare at the person who organised the meeting so they know they've done something wrong. |

Up until a few months ago, I started at 6am. I exaggerate my niceness to wind people up who phone that early. One woman asked to speak to someone else because I was too happy at 6am. That genuinely made me happy |

Anyway going back to the OP point about adjusting time, the sun rise varies by about 2 minutes a day, should we adjust the clocks daily, weekly, monthly, or maybe just average it out to twice a year? |

I've never done office work and all that meeting type of stuff, it would bore me stupid and I would end up getting the sack for punching someone.
Building work and going to different sites and meeting different people is more what I'm about, as long as you can do the job that you were employed to do, then everybody leaves you alone, and you can have your breaks when you want to |

So teenagers preference for when they get out of bed now counts as scientific proof that making them start at 9am damages their brains.
Isn't science wonderful? |

For me, ideally it would, because sometimes the sun rises at four in the morning, and I just think it is rude of it to do that, when I want to go out and do some nice sunrise photography |
