We had an interesting discussion about it yesterday. I think it does, do you have someone who is opposite? It could be in values in life too, by the way, its a good song by paula abdul too  |

I think we can find people who are different to us very interesting, however I think it can bring a lot of hassle with it, especially when they hold opposing values etc. Minor stuff is fine but when it comes to the big stuff I don't think it works. |

Holding different values is likely to lead to more conflict, so while they might attract, in the long run, they are less likely to be successful I would think.
We may have different opinions on some things but in the main we hold similar values. Golf is the main exception, he loves it. To me it's a good walk ruined.  |

Sometimes it can work if the differences are balanced out to some degree.
With core things like morals, beliefs ect ect there either has to be give and take or it will be constant fights over who is right...both will be but neither will give unless a compromise is put in place.
So even then it comes down to each others attitudes towards that as well. |

I've found that personality wise I seem to be drawn to a certain type of personality and it does seem to polar opposite but we have shared many interests.. |

Morally and politically me and the missus, are pretty much on the same page, but in most other aspects we are polar opposites, I'm more creative, she's more practical, I'll do things on a whim, she'll procrastinate for days, she'll stick to a budget and save, if I've got a quid in my pocket I'll have to spend it.
But so far (20 years) it's worked ok for us. |

I like men who can make me laugh. Unfortunately both good men and tosspots can make me laugh. I’m a miserable cow so we balance each other out.

Opposite does not attract rather similarities. Opposite for the sake of opposition does not sustain a relationship because where are the similarities to enjoy similar things. That's like putting a cat on a leash and calling it a dog. |

I believe they can. We all go after something we don't have, in this case someone to share a life with. You're going to want someone to help compensate your weaknesses especially when raising a family. All that really matters is what you both want out of life, that's all that needs to remain consistent.
Regardless of type, stay with someone long enough who share the same goals and you'll fall in love
Everything else is just noise, fluff or a work around  |

I think it depends on what the opposites are. Some are complimentary being opposite, some really do not work at all. |

Friendships yes. Partnerships no. Me and my ex were total opposites. He was quite narrow minded. A bit of a bigot and a racist to be honest and 2 friends said to me he is no good for you, you have opposing opinions in life but I was jaded and didn't see it.... Until we were living together and it was sheer hell. |

Looks wise, I'm not that into those of similar build to me, so I guess physically, yes.
Personality wise though I seem to be attracted to those with a similar outlook and opinion.
I've only had one partner who had different views than me and we used to fight like cat & dog
In some ways I enjoyed the challenge, in other ways it drove me to complete distraction |

The best relationships iv had is with people the same as myself, laughing about the same stupid things as we share the same humour, bouncing off eachother, always something to watch together as same taste in movies and music aswell, cooking together each night, never arguing as nothing to fall out about...
Worst relationship was with my opposite, nothing in common so nothing to ever talk about and had no interest in what she was talking about and vice versa, putting up with shitty music all day and forced to watch boring bullshit, im so laid back and she was so uptight that she would accuse me of not caring about anything because of it and would freak out about everything, couldnt take a joke.
Its the little things that make a relationship so you gotta be on the same wavelength |
