By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

Wish me luck.

2 years ago I got made redundant. Took a job paying £12,000 a year less but managed. My confidence took a massive nose dive and I always felt that my current role isn’t fulfilling.

So I applied for a new position. Had my 1st interview a week ago and been asked back again today.

I have got to give a presentation.

Wish me luck .

Congratulations!

I’ve been made redundant before and it does dent your self confidence and your own perception of your own self worth.

I’m now earning £20k a year less than I was but I’m doing something that I love rather than something that was stressful, unfulfilling but paid a fat salary. Its always good to be back though!

Unfortunately some people get caught In the rat race and can't get out.

There is no way I could change to doing something I love and take a 20k pay cut..not at the minute..got too many commitments

I hear you!

It’s not by choice and it’s been tough financially and many economies have had to be made. We downsized, brought a smaller car and cut back on luxuries. I do miss being able to do what I want when I want to do it but in the main I’m much happier and in a good place right now.

It’s amazing how you learn to adapt to a reduction in income. I lost £12k a year and when you on your own trying to pay bills it’s hard. You have to watch every penny but I’m pleased this position bridges the gap in my lose of income.

Very much so. If this situation taught me anything it’s that you don’t need money to be happy. Yes we all have financial commitments and as long as you can still meet them then you begin to realise that money isn’t everything and that I probably spent far too much on frippery before!

Wear a smile! You can do it, good luck!

Make your presentation enjoyable, memorable and have a little fact that they did't know. Showing research and pulling out hidden facts is sure to impress.

I did a two page presentation for one interview. The result was a "Ooh, that's better than what our managers do!" and a 5 year stint there.

Don't forget to interview them as well!
