This is why I have a gas hob, after having a power cut for hours I realised having a gas hob was ideal. I don't recall having a power cut since that one, which was 7years ago  there may have been one since but hasn't gained entry to my memory. |

About 15 years ago they where building the tesco next to me. It was a major night in eastenders where someone was getting murdered and they cut through a power cable. Boom. The whole street was out thought the workmen where going to get lynched |

We had to get home before the cut off time or risk getting stuck in the lift or having to carry everything up to the 18th floor.
I remember London had stars when all the lights went out.

I was at school in 1973, remember the blackouts well (great for avoiding homework).
Seem to recall "brownouts" as well. Not a total lack of electricity, but a reduced level. Obviously some industries would be exempt (hospitals for one). Think the railway was as well, although they were always the first to go on strike anyway so pretty pointless for them. |
