Absobloodylutely! If it looks and smells fine then it probably is. But do so at your own risk! Not being blamed for OP getting food poisoning after taking advice from strangers on a sex site. |

I would to. On the flip side of the coin though, I opened some milk which was very much within date the other week and it was seriously off (curdling immediately in my tea no less!)
Tasted horrible.
Tasted similarly horrible on my corn flakes the next day to..... ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

"Food that was past it's use by date.. the food looked fine , smelt fine , no obvious signs of being off..
it's going to be cooked not eaten raw ?"
Yeah as long as I was happy with how it looks and smells. Those dates are only a guide. |

I’m thinking of starting a scientific journal which will detail both the visual appearance and indeed, the taste of said milk over the course of a years investigation....
......Day 156: Today the milk, which is now a curious green hue, appeared to sprout spontaneous blue hairs from within. The smell is truly indescribable now and I had the Environmental officers around hassling me again earlier. Philistines! I tasted a mouthful of this intriguing substance earlier and whilst still very much conscious, am nonetheless experiencing strange hallucinations..... |

No, I wouldn't. My health is too important to me to chance on an out of date food product that I could afford to replace. I wouldn't completely waste the product though, depending on what it was it would go to the wild birds, fish or foxes. |

Even water has a use by date now. It’s all a load of rubbish to me. If my grandparents thought it was fine I’d trust their word, after all they all made it to at least 60. That’s more than enough for me to decide it works, they never made me ill ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

I think Fleming beat you to it. Apparently that’s pretty much what his lab was like.. |

Just a thought - I was born in a country that doesn't have an NHS type system, and a trip to the medcentre for food poisoning would cost me about $500. To those who've said they would happily eat out of date food, would you still take the chance if you potentially had to pay a similar fee in the UK, rather than spend a couple of pounds on a replacement food item? |

A use by date is different to a best before by date..use by, really should not be eaten ofter it's date..best before simply means that,Once past it's best before date the product losses flavour and deteriorates in it's quality, but is perfectly safe to eat |

Educated risk assessment. I’m not going to get food poisoning from a few out of date raisins or some year old cumin. Fish or chicken - different story. |

I believe that's due to the deterioration of the plastic bottle though, not the actual water. |

I love popping into the shops for one thing and coming out with lots of items covered in pretty yellow labels
Our freezer is full of steak, mince, sausages, all reduced, but cooks and tastes the same as fresh
Fruit, salad, vegetables reduced, yes please
Only thing I wouldn't buy is dairy and fish. That's just my personal opinion
