Which is probably one more goal of importance than Gerrard has ever scored for England, although you don't say who you support for us to slag off. While he was not the best player there has ever been, his crossing and passing has not been replaced; oh for Theo Walcott to be half as good with his delivery.

In my opinion you cannot fault his work ethic, his commitment to his country (take note the players who followed) and his marketability. On his cv he has Man Utd and Real Madrid which to be fair, is pretty damn good by anyone's standards.

Dear lord….!. you have to wonder at the logic some people employ when slating this chaps playing ability....

Top managers from all over the world. The very people who are regarded as so knowledgeable about the beautiful game, they get paid lots of money to bring success to their respective clubs, have vied for his service and have spoken nothing but praise for his talent….!.

And yet here we have people, happy to suggest he is actually crap at football…. Hahahahahah….. and that he only managed a successful #career at top level based on his looks !!!!,,,,,

hmmmm….!. Interesting that one ain’t it? ,,,,

I’ll resist the urge to start a thread of name your top eleven most successful butt ugly players…… on account that I believe the word ugly is word that should only be applied to people who are nasty on the inside rather than a term used to describe someone physical appearance…

Really??

So he played for 3 of the biggest clubs in Europe and received over 100 England caps due to his looks?

Thought it was an ability to play football that makes a career like that!

Which on the BBC Sport re_iew said was inspired by Beckham and a Michael Owen hat-trick!

Given he has 100+ caps then he must have something, even if you don't personally rate him.

I dont think so, it was all lpool players who scored that night (as was) Haman, Owen, gerard and heskey.

Prapa not his looks, but the fact that he sold shirts was a big issue (I forget his name, but the asian chap playing for man u was signed on for his ability to sell shirts in the far east)

sport is a profesional business. money is less spent on talent than ability to generate more money

I don't want facts to get in the way of your opinion but here are two extracts from the BBC Sport re_iew..

Owen will win the headlines, but there were heroes all over the pitch for England - with captain David Beckham and rejuvenated goalkeeper David Seaman in particularly fine form....

Such a prospect looked fanciful when Carsten Jancker fired the Germans in front within six minutes....

fair enough, but it didnt say beckham scored did it?

try to google what best said about beckhams tackling skills

or his ability to run the ball.

or how his passing/crossing skills wemt to pot once someone got within 5 yards of him.

accept he was quite tasty on a dead ball, but you realy need more than that.......

Wouldn’t it be interesting to hear the opinion of some of the people who have actaually played football at the highest level….!.

Oh silly me….!. we have in the FIFA;s world player of the year awards….

My-my... look at that.... sheeezzzz so many of them nominated Becks back in 1999 and again in 2001,,, that he was only beaten into second spot behind winners Rivaldo and Luis Figo respectively,,,

Struth,,,, which in achievement ranks him joint 15th top player since those award began.....

Yeah,,, that sucks.... pffft,,,,,

Typical fecking scoucer hatred of united players.....becks has given 15 years of service.

He has given his all for the three lions...

Wish some of the Liverpool players could have done the same a certain mr fowler and Gerard and Barnes never really performed for England like performed for Liverpool

Yes I am a united fan but I support players like Gerard when he puts on the three lions. Grow up and get behind the team

Sorry, not true. I am very good at my job, I have picked up over £1 million this month. I harry my clients to pay their invoices, I provide whatever proofs they need. I badger my colleages to do their jobs properly and ensure that ordrs are complete, that deliveries ate made in full and on time. I set my staff and clients deadlines I expect to be kept. I hold my end up and I make it clear what the consequences are if the other party does not. I appologise (fulsomley) if I make an error and thank those who do a good job. Am I poulat at work? No. Does my boss think I do a good job? Hell yes. Will I win any awards from my coleagues or clients? No

popularity in a business so heavily influenced by the media has nothing to do with ability. If it did Ken Clark would have been PM for years......

Seems a good family man, commands worldwide popularity, always proud to represent his country, lends his name to worldwide charity causes....

Not sure that makes the man a tosser....in my opinion.

what I did not explain properly was that football is influenced by the media. The fact that some one is popular in the media gives them a head start in popuarity contests like pfa player awards and the like.

you dont need to be talented to be popuar in the media, you jusy need s good agent.......

I dont post much on here, but its clear that OP is a not a football fan or has ever been a player.

Making comments about a game / profession that he clearly has no idea about.

Beckham is not perfect, as a person or as player but to say that he achieved all he did because he was good looking or popular is farsical.

i played semi pro football and there is a gulf in ability between the level i played and the level Mr Bechkam played and you dont play at his level because you are popular or good looking.

You sir are an Arse!!

My word, how true that is.

Probably the most respected manager in the game (fergie) thought Becks was pretty special. Who better as a mentor??

Think the OP may be a little out with his judgement, as Becks has an unrivaled passion for the game.

NO I'm not a ManU fan.

I've just been involved football as manager of a couple of teams, qualified FA coach and also a referee.

It is good to see that we have a plethora of International football managers and trainers on here who know so much more that Sir Alex Ferguson and a succession of England managers! I don’t like or follow football and I certainly have no feelings for the likes of Beckham. Overpaid prima donnas overly temperamental!

However! Even I cannot deny that of his ilk, Beckham is in the top few of England players! Best may have been good, but that was fuelled by alcohol, Beckham, apart from one unsubstantiated episode, has come through his career virtually unscathed!

This looks to me like the old “tribal” thing where other teams have to knock success, no matter how it is gained! It seems to be a sporting thing, but it is not an attractive trait…

"Typical fecking scoucer hatred of united players.....becks has given 15 years of service.

He has given his all for the three lions...

Wish some of the Liverpool players could have done the same a certain mr fowler and Gerard and Barnes never really performed for England like performed for Liverpool

Yes I am a united fan but I support players like Gerard when he puts on the three lions. Grow up and get behind the team"

Hardly a 'typical' scouser i think...

fancy taking a nibble from a cricket player with not an ounce of knowledge about football lol...

i think becks was just a very good footballer, that was very good with the dead ball, he was never the best player in uniteds midfield, when fergie broke up his midfield, which player did he sell, not giggs, scholes or keane, i wouldn't knock him though he markets himself well and has been very sucessful, fair play to him.

I admire his professionalism, but he wouldnt even be in the top 5 best English players of all time, yet alone anywhere near in the world's best.
