Have you tried asking questions that need a longer answer than yes or no?

There’s s technique that I was taught when I first started to interview job applicants. Use ‘how would you’ rather than ‘Do you’. No real secret and I expect many in here know the trick. |

Yes I'm guilty of using five words when only two will do. But the moment someone sends a one word reply I give up on them.
It's lazy and offensive and they should be shot in the face |

If I'm too tired to converse properly I tell them I'm tired and we'll talk later or tomorrow. Some might think I'm longing them off if I don't leave the site. |

We use that all the time when we get a one liner. 50% 50% the next message will be a request to meet, or a torrent of abuse about being ungrateful. |

I'd rather someone engaged in conversation because they wanted to rather than because they were tricked.  |
