Never owned a console, unless you count Pong on a Binatone in the 70s.

I love my PC games though, mostly rpg fantasy and strategy. Total War, Settlers, Thief, Dungeon Siege etc.

I found Medal of Honour Allied Assault SE in a charity shop today, dead chuffed as it still has the 30 page booklet/manual with it. Reading those is half the fun for me

Well if you wanted a constructive discussion then fine, but as just seen your own discussion asking for ppl to criticise you I feel you are just looking for arguments and to be rude and put people down for what they enjoy.

If you don’t like games fine why should I try convince you to change your views as you have your views for your own reasons... just as you said yes I am a gamer and a musician and also like movies and enjoy it cos it pleases me and makes me happy but am not goin argue about why you should like what I do

Too many. I’ve got various consoles and handhelds throughout the house.

Of the current crop, PS4 and Switch. On the PS4 I’m switching between The Witcher 3 and Uncharted: Lost Legacy, depending on my mood. I’m looking forward to getting back to Horizon: Zero Dawn, and Mudrunners; I’m really trying to address my pile of shame.

On Switch, I’m currently playing the World Cup update on FIFA. I’m also flicking between loads of titles on that; ARMS, Fast RMX, WulverBlade, Super Mario Odyssey, Floor Kids... too many to mention, tbh.

Currently almost finished with Uncharted 4, again.

I play these games every few months, along with Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider.

It was E3 all last week, so I've got a few games I'm looking forward to playing soon; The Last of Us: Part 2, Resident Evil 2: Remake and Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

Yeah, I regularly go back to my PSone and PS2 for a quick bash. They’re in the bedroom with my 360. The PS3 and PS4 are under the telly. I’ve got a bunch of stuff on my Vita, but it hasn’t had a look in since the Switch arrived.

My Game Boy micro gets the occasional airing. I have no idea if the Atari ST, Sega MegaDrive or either of the 48k ZX Spectrums still work; they’re projects for if/when I finally get someplace with a spare room. My Gizmodo is just a novelty.

I sold the Dreamcast and the N64, and I gave my Wii away.

I’m planning to build a wee retro tabletop, running on a Raspberry Pi.

Occasionally, I have a life.

Quite excited they're talking about reissuing N64. That'll be a gas.

I haven't had time for a while, but getting the urge to get lost in a game.

The lad has a PlayStation VR which is pretty incredible. I fancy getting myself a game for that, possibly a flight sim or driving game.

Not really. I know people who are addicted to shit TV and watch hours every spare moment, others also have to drink.

Some people are weak. It doesn't make gaming, TV, gambling, booze etc bad just because some people can't control themselves.

I highly recommend Driveclub VR - a brilliantly immersive driving game on PSVR. When you drive over a crest your stomach actually flips! You can also watch a replay and you sit in the passenger seat next to the driver and it's like he's sitting right beside you and taking you for a drive - it's unreal! It was released at the same time as the headset so with it being quite old now you should be able to pick it up really cheap, especially 2nd hand.

I also play GT Sport and the VR is very good, but quite limited as it's only 1v1 rather than driving against lots of cars.

Wipeout Omega Collection is also another really great game in VR - if you like racing spaceships .

Ace Combat 7 will be coming out (hopefully) this year in VR and that looks amazing judging by the trailers I've seen.

There is another flight simulator game called Ultrawings VR which I haven't played yet, but definitely on my list of games to get.

Xbox one player. Mainly play on PUBG but getting bored if it now.

Me and my friends have just got Gears of War 4 from gamepass to play for a bit.

My favourite multiplayer is still Titanfall 2. But no one I know plays it anymore

Anybody remember Substation on the Atari ST? The first smooth-scrolling fps I ever played, very atmospheric.

I play online chess quite a lot, not sure if that counts though.

Really need to get back into gaming and to also fix my 360. In my teens, I collected a good few hundred video games for it, and everytime I pass them, I get a feeling of nostalgia. Xbox are making things backwards compatible, but are doing really obscure puzzle and arcade games first for some reason. Two games I've been really craving is Brutal Legend, and Space Marine

I was dead excited when Battle For Middle Earth came out, being a chronic Tolkien geek. It's a lush game visually, beautifully made and rendered, but the gameplay turns into too much of a click fest for my liking.

I missed out on getting into gaming, but have always pondered when I see threads like these the fact that I think it’s somerhing that would appeal to me for a number of reasons. My exposure was only ever going to my Uncle’s house as a kid (he had the old school Pac-man, space invaders and so on) and then I’m my uni years, Prince of Persia and Quake type affairs at a friend’s house.

Since then, increasingly the “how do I get started?”, has felt overwhelming and because I just don’t really know the different equipment etc, I’ve continued to assume it’s an overreach for me to access the world of gaming. I also fear my brain to finger dexterity would be shite.

However, where would you recommend I started?

Kind of a tough question for me because I've grown up with gaming. Going from a controller with a stick and 2 buttons then over the years slowly progressed to a controller with 2 sticks, a d-pad and 12 buttons (including push stick). I imagine going from nothing to a full pad could be a challenge in its self.

I loved COD 1. Great gameplay, very absorbing. Except that when you die and respawn, all the enemies are in the same place. There's that bit where you have to get out of a submarine ... it took me forever but I eventually managed it just by working out a sequence of actions according to where each enemy soldier was. Mind you without that I'd probably still be stuck there.

Combat Mission is a great WW2 game. A mix of live action with turn-based tabletop style play.

A lot of BF long term fans were pissed off but it still peaked at 19 Million players so was never a flop. Multiply that by an average figure of £50 for the game. It's boggling really.

Bf2 was ground breaking.

Bf3 had excellent CQ maps.

BF4 broke new ground again and was amazing.

Bf3 took graphics and maps up a level, was the most violent off all games but was different to the others.

BF V looks like it will poss people off but I expect it to be just as successful if not more.

Battlefield have picked a lot of COD players up who are like when they see what's on offer

Gameplay and story win over graphics every time for me. It's a rare treat to get both. Some of my favourite games are oldies with v dated graphics but I still love playing them. Although that might just be nostalgia : )

Some of the classic arcade titles have a core gameplay loop strong enough to not require fancy graphics. Asteroids, Defender, Pac-man, Space Invaders; they nailed that risk/reward feedback, and the simplicity of movement works perfectly. Unfortunately, a lot of the games on Spectrum and C64 have not aged quite so well.

Or, have I gone further back than you meant?

Not what I had in mind, I was thinking more of early rpg and first person games like Mystic Mirror, Eclipse, Heretic, Half Life. Text adventures too.

Good point though, simple games like Space Invaders and Pac-man are always enjoyable. Tetris is still good fun too.

I used to love the Legacy Of Kain series; Voice acting which has yet to be beaten in my opinion and simply wonderful characterisations.

Sadly, since Eidos disbanded, a sequel is dubious although there are some murmurs of the possibility of a return. I live in hope....

"I used to love the Legacy Of Kain series; Voice acting which has yet to be beaten in my opinion and simply wonderful characterisations.

Sadly, since Eidos disbanded, a sequel is dubious although there are some murmurs of the possibility of a return. I live in hope.... "

As it happens, Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain is what I’ve been playing on PS3 lately. The voice acting is passable, but to say it hasn’t been beaten is a case of rose tinted, um, ears. Look to Naughty Dog’s output for an idea of what’s achievable these days. The likes of Nolan North and Troy Baker are doing stuff that easily surpasses the camp am-dram feel of the LoK series.

Hearing aids would be a more consistent idiom.

Carry on

PS4 all the way!

Currently playing Destiny... surprised nobody else is?

Looking forward to FF7 remake and The Last of Us 2... the first one is probably the best game I've ever played

3s atm, still, anniversary edition, although it's a bare bones offering. Hit confirm charge partition meaty dp (oo err) and all that jazz. wake up tatsu parry mydays. Definitely one of the greatest games ever.

Serious tho, v is weak imo. Still, evo soon I think? I need to go, some day.

I play arcade titles mostly, in general. Miss the arcade scene.

I’m trying to play it but due to writing of instructions being so tiny means am struggling ( on big tv with glasses on but due to positioning in room that I can be in following op it’s tiny)

Looks a great game and everyone I know who played says it great but I dunno yet personally

Tried destiny but just don't have the reactions for the shoot em up element. Dying all the time makes for a boring playtime

"Ps4, currently playing fallout 4.

I'm not really feeling Fallout 76. I don't know why. Maybe it's the setting.

I'd love to explore the states of New York and New Jersey. Maybe not all of them but at least NYC (all five boroughs), Upstate New York, the Appalachian Mountains and Hudson River Valley.

Failing that California state would be cool. It'd be awesome to explore Los Angeles, San Diego, San Franscisco, the Mojave Desert, Redwood National Park, Sierra Nevada Mountains.

I see no reason why they couldn't do that to be honest. Imagine a Fallout game where you have to travel cross country and not just a localised area.

I have just started playing Fallout 4 again, pissing about with mods.

I loved that esp getting free copy with the 5th

After completing both bought 4

Never liked em at first but got 5th and became addicted to completing all missions and side levels
