Simon Pegg has said in the past, “Being a geek is all about being honest about what you enjoy and not being afraid to demonstrate that affection. It means never having to play it cool about how much you like something. It’s basically a license to proudly emote on a somewhat childish level rather than behave like a supposed adult. Being a geek is extremely liberating.”
So what gets your inner geek going? What do you shamelessly love without fear of reprisal? |

The definition seems incomplete. That's just having hobbies. I've never had to make excuses for my love of MMA because MMA is cool as fuck. The fact that i also enjoy renovating 8-bit consoles... less so |

Love 2000AD comics, and on occasion I might be found breaking out the paints and brushes for a toy soldier/fantasy figure painting session! And not ashamed or embarrassed about it at all. It's a carefree release and relaxing |

Having a keen interest in something isn't really geeky, I like Star wars/sci-fi movies and have watched a lot of them,
To me being geeky would be going the cinema at midnight to watch the first screening then watching it again 2-3 times, Dressing up as characters and buying all the merchandise etc
or is that obsessive |

I love conspiracy theories! I very rarely take them seriously but the absolute genius way of starting with an end and matching events from the past to create a alternative occurrence just fascinates me....and anything with faeries, after all I am actually one

I've done the midnight showings of all the last Avenger films (including standalone ones) and Star Wars. For some of them (depending on spare time) I've gone back to watch them again.
I have never dressed up as a character though.
So am I geeky, or not? |

"Does wearing Wonder Woman underwear and a Justice League tshirt make me a geek or a nerd?
What's the difference between a geek and a nerd?"
A geek is someone who knows a lot about more then one subject eg can tell the difference between star wars and Star Trek
A nerd is someone who knows alot about one subject eg computer nerd |

I got into the clone wars. Ashoka Tano is my all time favourite Star Wars character.
. Being animated annoyed me at first but after getting used to it, I really enjoyed some of the stories tying in ‘some’ good ideas. |

I think our name shows we’re geeks
I love TTRPGs (specifically D&D)
I’m a gamer through and through.
I absorb info really well so any fandoms I get into I do a bit of research and get a little obsessed
Geeky has Superman Doctor Who and Battlestar galactica in a joint tattoo
We don’t hide our geeky side the whole point of being a geek is being proud and unashamed of what you like! I’ve even converted my daughter to play D&D

It’s what works for you; we all show love in different ways surely? So how you express that love is just as unique, if it’s getting a tattoo or full on cos play then that’s what’s right for you! That’s the whole point... |

We go to midnight launches I also spend a good number of hours dedicated to my hobby a week/month including creating characters, painting minis, actually playing the game and other stuff in between
I have more dice than I could possibly need, I wear tshirts proclaiming my geekiness, we go to Comiccons in costume if we’ve had enough time to plan.
Does that make us geeks? I think it does!
Do I care? Nope not at all I’d happily sit with anyone and have a nonsensical conversation about a fantasy/fictional subject.
What I oppose is people who obsess over football or any other sporty thing calling me a geek as if it’s a bad thing! They have their football which people like my dad/brothers know more stuff than is ever needed to know about which is no different to someone with a fandom the fandom just happens to be a bunch of blokes running around a field kicking a ball around

Ahsokas final battle with Vader in Rebels was bloomin brilliant!
I used to love reading the expanded universe books before Disney threw it all in the bin too. So when I saw Grand Admiral Thrawn from the books by Timothy Zahn make his debut in Rebels, I was pleasantly excited to see what they'd do with him. |

Why not? There’s no select club to bring a geek!

It's now "cool" to be a geek. When I grew up, it wasn't and meant lots of bullying from non-geeks. If you watched any American teenage film/tv series, you would know that. |

Isn't the definition of geekiness having an obsessive, bordering on unhealthy, interest in something?
Thus one can be a football geek, a politics geek or a sci fi geek, but not everyone interested in football, politics or sci fi is a geek... |

Our wedding was a true geek fest, we decorated in comic book colours, the look of horror on the mother in laws face when I said black table cloths! But when she saw the other colours she totally got what we meant, our wedding cake was proper ‘kids birthday cake’ stuff (think there is a pic on here) and was totally geeky in everyway, even the colour was bright red! The only draw back was people from my work assumed it was a fancy dress reception (instead of asking me) so stayed away in droves, I was a bit sad about it but now I don’t actually give a fuck what they thought because you know what we had a fucking brilliant time! Even the pub played movie soundtracks to marvel films etc while our guests arrived, it was a lovely touch and wasn’t something we requested. I’d do it again tomorrow.
I don’t know what makes me geeky, I’m not afraid to say I like sci fi films etc, I love going to comic con like ads mentioned. I love anything that is remotely geeky when it comes to dress etc. If I could I would dress very alternative but I’m not confident enough to try it.
Even at my work hen party that I had with my residents my boss had superhero cupcakes made for me, she ‘got it’ totally lol.
Geeky x |

"Supernatural. I have all the seasons. Can't wait till September, so i can buy the Season 13 boxset. would die if i got to go to one of the conventions. I'm one of those sad fan girls, but i don't care "
Oh you're not sad in the slightest. Flippin' love Supernatural. I had a slight obsession with it in the earlier seasons and one of my highlights was guessing what folklore/mythology was being referenced. And the episode with the various deities in that Elysian Fields Hotel? Phwoar.

"I’m into table top gaming
Warhammer 40k
The Batman miniatures game
Necromunda
I used to game Warhammer 40k, but I actually more enjoyed paintingbthe figures"
I buy most of mine second hand so they’re already built and painted which saves me time and money
I’ve probably got a couple of thousand pounds worth of figures for warhammer that I paid a fraction of that for, last time I count I think I had around 10,000 points of models...which considering 2000 points is the standard game and takes anywhere from 3-4 hours to play. |

My type of woman! I used to love researching the folklore/mythology, surrounding some of the storylines .

This is kind of the point of the thread; it’s not sad in the slightest. Being able to express your geek love in all its glory is the best thing!
As for supernatural? I love it! Certainly the early series. I named a set of cats that I had Castiel and Crowley |

I used to know practically everything you could possibly know about Tolkien and what he had written(even so far as reading/annotating his collected volume of letters and attempting to hunt down where he had lived..).
Also had a hugely obsessional Marvel comics collecting thing going on in the early 90s. Nowadays I restrict myself to the odd Neil Gaiman/Alan Moore graphic novel in between the generally mainstream fiction and non fiction I read.

I cut my teeth on Sharpe and discovered a love of old weaponry and traditional songs.
Now it's Firefly, Marvel, shannara, librarians, Vikings, magicians, last kingdom, game of thrones, Harry potter, lotr... basically anything that revolves around magic, history, fighting, paganism etc.
Oh and I have a large library of paranormal romance |

I think "geek" has kind of lost it's meaning. It used to mean an interest in something vaguely academic with enthusiasm.
I think it now means wearing false glasses and liking generic mainstream American superhero movies that require little to no thought. |

Yeah I'd agree with that. When Lord Of the Rings came out everyone and their dog considered themselves as a geek because it was the popular thing at the time. However some of us had already been into D&D and had read all the books and had the piss taken out of us for doing so lol |
