Worst remake of a great film

"Point break...new one is fucking awfull "
Absolutely agree.
Seems normal for producers now to just pick a random 70s, 80s film that was good at the time and then expect it will be a box office hit. |

I’ve not seen anyone put jumanji yet, I’m yet to see it, felt this could be going the same route ? Is it better or as good as first any thoughts ? I like rock and Kevin heart films normally though |

The Fog - Awful remake of Carpenter’s classic. Nightmare On Elm Street - No Robert England = No Freddy.
Basically any horror remake with Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes as the production company equates to shite. |

Christ, I almost forgot (perhaps subconsciously blocking it out in fact!) the sheer fucking horror that was the remake of Arthur starring none other than Russel Brand in the titular role(!!!)
Jesus H Christ, words cannot describe how absolutely fucking horrible that piece of shit of a movie was |

"Titanic 2 is a really dreadful film.
Not heard if that...does it make it to new York and jack and rose live happily ever after?" I think it was DVD only but was on TV a few weeks ago. No, it was dire. |

The Karate Kid remake.
Ok where to begin......well for starters the title was erroneous straight off the bat as in this version the (annoying as all hell!) kid is clearly studying Kung Fu as opposed to Karate.
I suppose at least it had Jackie Chan in it (in fact he was the only good thing in it!)

There and to the left a bit |
Have to agree with those named already - another to add to the list although it had a different title from the original, the hokey James Bond - Never Say Never Again which was basically Thunderball redone can't believe Sean Connery agreed go do it!! |

Actually a couple that weren't bad that come to mind - The Taking Of Pelham 123 and Cape Fear not better than the originals but not woeful either.
I also heard that the remake of The Magnificent Seven wasn't bad either.
One that surprised me as I was up in arms when it was announced was the recent Dad's Army film that actually wasn't bad and showed a lot of respect to the original series. |

I think the obvious ones have already been mentioned, Get Carter and The italian Job. Both absolutely horrendous re-makes. Another one springs to mind though as well, The Jackal(the re-make of The Day of the Jackal). I hated that re-make, not even bothering to try to be near to the story.
There is another one though that just makes me seethe with anger, the film Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Anyone old enough to remember the 1970's BBC series ? If you do, you will know that no other actor could be George Smiley other than Alec Guinness and the perfect Connie will always be Beryl Reid................the film is like desecrating someones grave. |

Fright night 80s version was so much better was the best
Island of death (Who could kill a child) original was more creepy
Psycho...universal was going to remaster and colorize the original but cost was too much so they just remade it scene by scene.
All I can think of at the moment it is quote late |

Peter Jackson was all set to do it, but lots of legal shenanigans got in the way ... "
Was the dogs name one of those complications?... |

I haven't seen it so cannot say if it's a poor remake but I was shocked into silence when I saw Papillon was remade last year.
I'm just happy they haven't tried to make a remake of jaws. While the original wasn't anything like the book and the effects were a bit weak it's a classic and at needs to stay that way. |

"Have to agree with those named already - another to add to the list although it had a different title from the original, the hokey James Bond - Never Say Never Again which was basically Thunderball redone can't believe Sean Connery agreed go do it!!" he did it because he actually owns the rights to that particular one

The Nutty Professor
The original with Jerry Lewis is far funnier than the remake with Eddie Murphy.
As someone else has said, The Italian Job remake is SHITE!
And although I love the comedy of Steve Martin he was terrible as Inspector Clouseau in The Pink Panther |

I don't think I've ever watched a remake. I just won't do it. Its lazy filmaking. I know Peter Jackson remade King Kong, and I usually like Peter Jacksons films. I thought about watching it, because frankly the original was pants. Then I found out Jack Black was in it and that stopped ne in my tracks. Jack Black...a man so desperate to emulate John Belushi but fails at every turn. He's mire like a lightweight Meatloaf. |

I'd heard of a few of these but I'm shocked at how many I didn't know had been remade
The Sweeney? really?
True Grit? I never knew that one had been done.
How could anyone remake Get Carter?
And whoever thinks about remaking Papillon should be shot.
Oh and the Italian Job remake was a piece of shit. |

There's something about titanic 2 that always reminds me of the story that the producers asked Peter hook and Bernard summer to get joy Division back together for the release of the film Control |

"And WHY do it!!
Get Carter with Sly Stallone anyone? " .
Hollywood....They have a habit of remaking Micheal Caine films into utter garbage.
Alfie, get carter, the Italian job, sleuth.... If they ever remake the man who would be king I'm smashing my TV up |

"I like a lot of the horror remakes, but The Hitcher with Sean Bean was rubbish imho.
Now I thought that was ok"
I guess because I'm such a fan of the original. I try not to be like that with remakes but they were pretty huge boots to fill. |

The thing and the fly are the only two horror remakes I can think of that surpass the originals |

"Ghostbusters
The Wicker Man
Wonder Woman"
I watched the new Ghostbusters today. I didn't have high standards for it, but it was better than expected. However, I wasn't really a big fan of the original... |

"I think the obvious ones have already been mentioned, Get Carter and The italian Job.
If you do, you will know that no other actor could be George Smiley other than Alec Guinness and the perfect Connie will always be Beryl Reid................the film is like desecrating someones grave."
I'm like that with Agatha Christie films/tv series. No one can play Miss Marple (Joan Hickson was perfect) and no one can play Poirot other than David Suchet. Kenneth Brannagh in the recent film was horrible! |

I absolutely love Hickson and Suchet but haven't seen the Brannagh film yet. It seems to have provoked mixed responses so I'll probably give it a go. |

The film itself is good. It's been a long time since I read the book which helped. I couldn't stand Jonny Depp, but he's murdered quite quickly so that's ok (not a spoiler). Brannagh is ok, but he just doesn't look right. |

The moustache seems to be what has annoyed people, although from what I've heard it's closer to how it is described in the books : ) |

"I just found out that some bright spark has decided to remake An American Werewolf in London.
Nooooooo!!! "
Apparently, it’s set to be directed by Max Landis, the original directors (John Landis) son and the titular role this time will be female.
I can’t say that I’m particularly stoked to put it mildly |
