"No Does it happen a lot ? Does what happen a lot? " Men manspaining to you!
"Isn’t ‘manspaining’ just a term feminists use to close down a debate when they can’t think of a good reply ?" I refuse to answer because I don't want to be accused of mansplaining. Seriously though, if a woman tells a man they're mansplaining, should you a) accuse them of shutting down the debate b) tell them why they're wrong, or c) pause, reflect and wonder if they may have a point.... If your reaction is to assume they;re not genuine, but just seeking to shut down the debate, ask yourself why you think that, and what it says about your view of human behaviour.

I have seen some feminists interviewed on TV, and I'm not a feminist, but the point remains that instead of taking the huff blokes should wonder why mansplaining became a thing, and wonder if they;re contributing to it...

"Do men call women feminists in a derogatory manner because they can't handle the fact that they stand up for themselves? Hmmmmm" Depends, it’s usually liberal feminists.

| |||
"Yes. For those that don't know it's when a man explains something to you in a patronising manner with the assumption that he automatically knows better then you. Most of the time I don't think it is overt intentional mysogony, the more conversations I have with male friends, the more I realise that a lot of it is subconscious, ingrained behaviour and thought processes. It's this element of society, the long arduous task of slowly changing years of thought process and understanding that is going to be a long, slow and painful slog. Most likely best dealt with my wives, friends, daughters patiently explaining how to change mindsets, to change hearts and opinions. " Best answer by far.
"Do men call women feminists in a derogatory manner because they can't handle the fact that they stand up for themselves? Hmmmmm" No, i don't actually know any women who can't stand up for themselves. Feminists represent just 9% of women in the UK and it seems their primary way of standing up for themselves is to lie.

"Ahhhh.....I’ve never previously come across this particular term before. For the benefit of the ladies, that basically means, I - have - not - heard - of - mansplaining - until - this - moment ![]() ![]() On your feminist label question, there was a yougov survey in 2015 which said that 35% of women identified as a feminist whereas the one quoted above was in 2016 which said 9%. The difference is probably due to exactly how the question was phrased. Possibly the 2015 asked "are you a feminist", whereas the latter one didn't suggest the word. "feminist" in the question. In any event if you asked an "are you" question about virtually any other ideological label. (socialist, conservative, athiest or whatever) you would get a lower figure than 35%.

It could be the wording. 35% was "consider themselves a feminist" whilst 9% "identify as a feminist". In the same poll that gave the 35% figure - more people felt feminist was an insult, than a positive term. In the poll that found the 9% figure, which was a pro-feminist organisation (despite one feminist on this thread dismissing it instantly), also found that more men, than women, believe in equality of opportunity for men and women (86% to 81%). What this shows is a huge disconnect between what femists call themselves and how the rest of society perceives them.

"I was wondering .. is a "Feminist" the female version if a "male chauvinist"? Why can't people just get along, respect each other and stop trying to score points all the time? ![]() ![]() Femsplaining is being right all the time.

"Is it mansplaining when women describe men's gentler, poetic, considerate, creative, nurturing, ponderous side as "feminine"? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Ironically it was probably men who first described the better sides of themselves as "feminine". We've certainly been willing participants of the myth. We're kinda chivalrous in that way... when we're less male and more feminine of course ![]()

"Google tells me.... -------------------------- Urban Dictionary:- TOP DEFINITION Mansplaining Stating accurate, verifiable facts. Especially when these facts are inconvenient to the feminist worldview, or contradict feminist talking points. It is often used by a feminists who makes an incorrect claim in support of their narrative, and someone responds with something refuting the feminist’s claim, which she (usually it’s a she) cannot counter. By claiming “mansplaining,” she tries to pretend to have invalidated her opponents claim, even though she has not addressed it at all. Feminists: Women only make 77% of what men make for exactly the same work! Oh the patriarchy. Factual Person: No, they don't. That statistic is just for overall median pay of full time workers, and does not account for overtime hours worked, location, experience, degree earned, or even the field someone is working in. Women make less on average because men and women make different career choices, because believe it or not, men and women are different. Feminist: Stop mansplaining to me! Facts and logic are just oppressive constructs to keep women down! 2 Mansplaining Mansplaining, a portmanteau of 'Man' and 'Explaining' is a term used to describe the action of a man explaining something to a woman, in a way that they deem sexist and/or condescending. The allegation of Mansplaining can be made by any woman at any time, provided they are ignorant of the double standards of using an insult designed to belittle someone of a particular gender on he basis of a stereotype. Man- "Press the source button until you see HDMI in the corner of the screen and then..." Woman- "Could I have a little less of the Mansplaining!" Man- " What the fuck is Mansplaining?" Woman- "its sexist, is what its is!" Man- "Isn't the term Mansplaining inherently sexist because of it's..." Woman- "THERE YOU GO AGAIN!!!" 3 Mansplaining A word used by feminists to silence men and prevent them from learning that men actually have problems too and that their point of view isn't the only one Feminist "women are paid 77 cents for every mans dollar" A man "well actually every serious study showed that there more factors than just gender like how long they worked there and education" Feminist "Stop mansplaining you patriarchal fuckface" 4 mansplaining buzzword (buzzfeed's word) that means explained by a man (because apparently everything needs to be gendered, doing the opposite of promoting gender equality.) buzzfeed: aw james is mansplaining agin ugh james: wtf im just trying to explain something can you plEASE stop interrupting its ru- buzzfeed: OFFE NSIVE I'VE BEEn SEXUaLLY HARRASed 5 Mansplaining When a man speaks to a woman exactly the same way he speaks to a man: somewhat mockingly, somewhat condescendingly, somewhat confrontationally. Ironically, feminists who champion equality among the sexes, expect men to change how they speak to accommodate their feminine sensibilities. Woman: I don't feel conservatives care enough about social justice. Man: That's ridiculous! That's just SJW propaganda. There can never be social justice if individual justice is ignored. Woman: Stop mansplaining, you big jerk! 6 mansplaining A misandrist term for a man making too much sense. Usually used by feminists to dismiss anything a man says that makes them look bad for stupid. Feminist: "Obesity is absolutely a feminist issue, especially when fat people are called unhealthy and discriminated against!" Man: "Obesity leads to diabetes, cancer, arthritis, and blood clots. They are only discriminated against, because it's unnatural for a human being to weigh 600 pounds. That would be a world record 30 years ago." Feminist: "Stop mansplaining, you white male!" 7 mansplaining When a man tries to explain something to a woman and she feels stupid for not figuring out herself, she accuses him of "mansplaining". "oh my god, that's really patronizing the way you just mansplained" © 1999-2018 Urban Dictionary ® -------------------------- Apparently that is mansplaining... Quite apart from the fact it's an ugly construct, both visually and verbally. Which should stop it ever gaining entry to the language. It is also extremely derogatory to anyone who uses it. So I vote we drop it from the language before it gains any purchase. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Did you really use urban dictionary as a source of information? ![]()
