We've had a few threads about favourite covers.

How about ones that you dislike?

To start off I offer Cher's version of Walking in Memphis

Agree with that. That whole Mark Ronson *covers* thing was pretty weak.

With you on that.

As much as I love him, Elvis' version of unchained melody isn't a patch on the righteous brothers.

That horrendous version of Mad World that inexplicably became a massive hit. Wanted to shoot myself or Gary Jules every time I heard a snippet before I could switch it off

Weren't they also responsible for that dreadful cover of Teenage Kicks? How anyone in the music industry allowed them to cover that is beyond me.

Wasnt sure that people knew the similarities..

Well have you heard that album?

It got slagged iff because of their public enemy cover

But lou reed said their version of Perfect Day was better than his

I also love their version of Dylan's Lay Lady Lay

Go back a little further to “Life Goes On” by The Damned (Strawberries album) for the riff that became “Eighties” (Killing Joke) and then “Lithium” (Nirvana)

In relation to stupid bands thinking they can do a classic.

Putting aside any boy/girl band/X Factor and novelty covers by TV "stars" which are normally just bad karaoke straight covers of the originals anyway and therefore awful and unimaginative - the two biggest offenders for me have to be covers of two songs which should never be covered (apart from by buskers/pub singers in one instance:

American Pie - Madonna - absolutely desecrated it!!

Bohemian Rhapsody - Panic! At The Disco

I liked the band and it was released in 1995, before the days of Spotify/torrents etc. Try before you buy wasn't an option, hence I've got 100's of albums that I only like a couple of tracks on (usually the first single!)
