I get great satisfaction from books and dont think i could ever own a kindle.

A well stuffed book case is more appealing to my eyes.

Are you a kindle worshipper orrrrrrr a book lover ?

Never tried a kindle. I like the feel of a book as you read. Would never convert to Kindles or the like

You don't have to chose one over the other as you can have both. Shabby paperbacks don't look so good but hardbacks do. Space and cost wise kindles will eventually become the norm.

I love books but have given probably thousands away over the years when i get too many! I joined the library a couple of years ago and it have saved me a fortune. I read about 1 book a week so the kindle would also probably be too expensive for me! Z

I love the feel of books, I don't think I could ever get used to the electronic alternative.

I've been reading constantly since I was 5 years old. I always have a book near, there has never been a time since I started school that I didn't have a book in my bag, its as normal to me as having my purse with me.

I don't think I could break that habit

Books each time- I don't like the idea of renting a book on a kindle and them being able to take it away at any time!! No with a book you can pick it up at any time, and you can't get smelly vision kindles- there is something calming about the smell of books- yep I am mad

its been said earlier in this thread.... you can have and enjoy both....they arent mutually exclusive.....i love my books....some are like old friends and have been part of my life for years....some bring back happy memories of my youth......but, call me a tart if you like.....i also love my Kindle...its great for taking on holiday, especially now the airlines are being so stingy with weight restrictions.........there are loads of free books available so you can take a whole library away instead of having to choose just a few......so to answer the original question.....both please

Books, but i dont read very often so not the best to comment. Can anyone reccommend good books on tape or in large print. I really want to read more but i have quite bad dyslexia and dyspraxia so find it a constant struggle to read eg Harry Potter, Lord of the ring. Might not be possible to get grown up books on tape?!

I'm totally converted to the kindle. I download the free books mainly and they change weekly. Some pretty decent erotic fiction appears quite often.

I do read an awful lot and I already have far too many books at home!

I love books. I have hundreds of them. Drives Jason potty but there you go.

I love the smell of them and how they feel in my hands, nothing better than falling asleep with a book over ya face.

If I owned a kindle, I'd probably poke my eye out when I fell asleep.

Have you tried your local library, quite a few books are available in large print and they may be able to help. They also have books on CD, not sure about tape.

Also have you thought of contacting the associations for Dyslexia and Dyspraxia, they may be able to help

I've recently switched to the dark side and started using a kindle. It's amazing how many books you can drag around with you without needing a wheelbarrow and muscles like Arnie with such a simple little gadget.

I'm also doing my bit for the environment, and everyone is banned from buying me printed matter for Xmas now.

I have a Kindle, the one with 3G. I use it when we go anywhere and I only have to take one item.

I never just read a book from cover to cover, I have different tastes for different moods. When we used to go anywhere I didn't take books because I didn't know what I would want to read. Now with the Kindle, I take them all!

Plus I can get on the 'Net almost anywhere we go and don't have to rely on WiFi. I also have audio books on it for those times I just want to float above it all.. One of the other things I love about it, one hand holding AND page changing! Get comfy and don't have to move.

I love books and have loads, but I read the kindle now.

I like both. I love a real book but don't have space to keep all the books i have bought so the kindle is ideal. I was buying 2 or 3 real books a week so it's probably cheaper having the kindle as they have a lot of free books or books on special offer

You need to join Calibre, they are a free to join no fee to borrow or post back lending library of books on tape and CD (unabridged) for the blind and people with dyslexia or dyspraxia, do a google search for calibre library + books for the blind, good luck

I read constantly newspapers, magazines,books

Usually manage about 4 books a week. Last time I went on holiday I took 15 books (hidden in various family members luggage and hand luggage lol). Whilst I love to hold and turn pages of real books I can see the advantages of electronic ones although as far as I can tell they have you over a barrel as far as new releases are concerned. Nothing better than picking up second hand books or sharing reccomendations

amongst friends.

Can you pass books on using a kindle ? or does everyone have to pay separately

And

How long do they stay charged for if being used constantly ie if you are in holiday by the pool ?

Xxxx

I love books, always have. Had a huge clear out a couple of years ago and got rid of loads to the Charity shops.

I bought a kindle this year and I love it.

I work in a Uni Library so still get my book fix at work . But more and more education and core text books are going on line.

My mum has always loved books, but she got a kindle last christmas and loves it.

Im in two minds. I love my books but must have about a 1000 and when i tried to sort them out last time i only got rid of one and that was because the back was broken. I need someone to just come in and take majority of them to the charity shop

I found 60 in my bedroom yesterday when i was sorting cause i counted them

A lot of Charitys have volunteers who will come round and pick them up for you and and take them to sell in their shops. Just give them a ring

You can share books if you use the same amazon account, any books downloaded not using the amazon sight can be shared.

My charge usually lasts a month give or take...depending if i use wi fi or not

To those amongst you who do prefer real paper books I recommend a website called readitswapit.co.uk (apologies if you all already know about it)

You put books you don't want on there and you can ask to swap them for other peoples books and visa versa. If you both have books you wish to swap your addresses are given to each other and you post your books off and wait to receive new ones. So it costs you postage. Works on a feedback system and I have swapped hundreds this way x

Why does it have to be either or? I don't have a Kindle I have an iPod Touch, but covert an iPad, and still read books, newspapers, and magazines. They provide different needs for me and are better in certain circumstances than others.

We tend to romanticize books when really they're just one way of assimilating information, either for knowledge or intertainment. Technology merely provides another alternative but is rarely exclusive. It finds it's niche and gives us more choices.

So for me it's not either/or, it's both.

"I love turning pages, especially when you get to a really juicy bit! I wouldn't even consider buying a kindle or any other electronic device to replace a book for that matter.you turn pages on the kindle...and you never lose your page "

I never lose my page either, I have a lovely silver bookmark I know you do kinda turn pages with kindle but I love the feel of the paper between your fingers as you turn the pages. I love the crackle of vinyl too just before the music starts... Does anyone else miss that?

What I like most about the kindle is when you turn it on it automatically goes to the last page you were reading. No more feckin bookmarks that fall out the book that make me re-read pages.

I often think about getting a Kindle if only for holidays. Paper books will disappear one day and to me thats will be a sad day. I have not bought a new book for years. Love the second hand book shop here in Horwich. Have picked up loads of good books I may never have done because it was 10p or whatever. Go in for one come out with 10 is the usual ratio

Love books, voracious reader, but my ipad is great to download them onto. Especially good for a family holiday where all ages can download favourite books and games yet only have the one small ipad to pack.

well not being a novel reader anyway theres not really anything to make me want a book.I find it hard to believe people hold a fascination of preserving some sort of identity that comes with paper...surely handwritten books would be the purest form of identity....but technoolgy moves on, so we have typewriters, wordprocessors, computers , its only natural we will move to a susatainable form of book reading rather than paper.

as for the kindle again, theres so many tech items that do exactly what that does, ones i've mentioned before...why have a kindle when u can have a tablet(note i dont say Ipad) type of device that performs book reading and other functions all in one go

"I get great satisfaction from books and dont think i could ever own a kindle.

A well stuffed book case is more appealing to my eyes.

Are you a kindle worshipper orrrrrrr a book lover ?"

I read at least one book a week, am always buying them or visiting the library.

But kindles don't appeal to me at all, give me a proper book anyday.

Much as I love technology and gadgets, I am afraid when it comes to literature, I prefer hardness.

It is sad, I will not even buy a book in a supermarket, always go to a book store.

It is interesting to read the different views on this thread. Some are saying that the Kindle (and some other e-readers) only do what other electronic gadgets do and have done for ages... So not correct!

Yes, Tablets and phones and the like can store books to read, but try reading them in bright sunlight! Try using them for a two week holiday without recharging! Try reading them for hours without your eyes getting tired!

Kindle uses "electronic ink" and the screen looks just like the printed page. It has WiFi capability and the top one even has FREE 3G connection almost anywhere in the world! OK, it isn't quick for surfing and that is only an additional gimick, but I have found it very useful!

For those who are so hooked on books that they won't consider? I won't give up on books either, but I read the Kindle! Makes so much sense, rather than trying to hold a book and a glass of Whisky when turning pages.. lol
