East Sussex

I would have thought the answer was no on the face of it. However since the person wouldn't have ben kept in captivity with no choice in the matter it's probably ok.

It isn't a living organism, if it was it could survive outside of your body. It doesn't.

I guess at a base level you are an animal so perhaps you are onto something with that point

I would have thought ‘Yes’

Yes, a Vegan should be ok to swallow

I was under the assumption that the whole point of Veganism is more about animal cruelty and avoiding it completely... which stretches far beyond just being on a plant based diet, and also includes cosmetics, fabrics, etc...

In my opinion, Your manly fluid is produced by you, during a pleasurable act, and is therefore not a product if animal cruelty...

Or, that’s what I’d ague if I was dating a vegan

I know a lot of Vegans that Smoke, which is definitely not a vegan thing to do...

and it seems like some Vegans I know are only Vegans when it suits them... (like my mate)

Given that there are 200 - 500 spermatazoa in each ejaculation (healthy fertile male 2 - 5 ml ejaculate); that's practically a genocide.

Wow I can't believe this became a serious discussion lol. In which case ...

Whether or not sperm is "living" is irrelevant. Honey and wool aren't "living" but are non vegan.

The point is whether or not the substance is willingly given by an entity which is capable of making that choice, and in the case of having oral sex and swallowing, it is. Actually the swallowing bit is pretty irrelevant too, as I wouldn't put honey in my mouth and then spit it out.

Well wool and honey are still products from a living animal so thats why they non vegan so sperm regardles of spiting or swallowing is still a product made from the human body .. with living cells created in a way to give life .. so swallowing or spiting that sperm is proventing life .. so non vegan right ...

but if you google what a vegan is it says

a person who does not eat or use animal products

So thats what veganism started as then all this other stuff was added into the mix so the core rule of veganism is a person who does not eat or use animal products is a vegan

"I know a lot of Vegans that Smoke, which is definitely not a vegan thing to do..."

Depends, there are cruelty-free vegan tobacco products.

On the other hand needles are sharpened on leather during production and a whole lot of other things are non-vegan which are very hard to avoid. e.g. tyres.

So short of going completely self-sufficient (which has its own ethical questions anyway) and never catching a bus etc, being 100% vegan is pretty much an impossibilty. You do what you can though and try to live with your conscience.

It's not so much the rubber in tyres which is non-vegan. Rubber is synthetic or plant-based although can often contain animal fats. But the production process to make tyres uses stearic acid which is usually non-vegan.

Don't know about dildos etc as I never use them, but latex contains milk so if you want to avoid that you need to buy latex-free condoms.

Personally, no. I wouldn't refuse someone else's condom just on those grounds, but I would never buy latex condoms as that would be funding and encouraging the cruelty and exploitation. It's swings and roundabouts. I daresay some who think themselves strict vegans might refuse it, but I think a lot of such people are kidding themselves and they tend to get very uppity when you point out how impossible it is to live in our culture and be 100% vegan.

I thought needles were lazer sharpened these days...?

And the argument for tabacco surely goes beyond it’s production processes... and the fact that it harms the human that is consuming them, as well as the animals and environment surrounding them is enough for all tobacco products to be classed as non-vegan-friendly...?

I agree that you can’t be 100% vegan these days... even most premade sandwiches contain cow or pig bone in the bread (called ‘Bread Improvers’) to improve their shalf life and to stop them going soggy and moldy before the filling does...

Although this is a really funny and entertaining thread... on a serious note... the most impressive animal is yourself... so if you look after your own health, surely that’s gonna set an example for the youth to follow

Fair point about needles (no pun intended haha) but it was just an example. And short of researching exactly where my clothes come from and where those people buy their needles from, I can never know what production processes are involved.

Lots of bread is non-vegan, along with lots of other food that has added vitamins etc. It's way easier though these days to know what's what.

Fair enough about smoking too although whether or not it hurts me isn't a vegan issue imho. I don't take painkillers or medicines these days because of animal vivisection. It's all kind of hopeless really if I think too much about it all. I mean how much roadkill is there because of veges and stuff being transported around the place etc, for just one example. I just do what I can though I know that I could be doing more.

I suppose ultimately, there is nothing that I really couldn't do without but I just have to accept my flaws. I'm typing now on a laptop which is almost certainly a non-vegan item. Could I survive without it? Yes of course.

""I know a lot of Vegans that Smoke, which is definitely not a vegan thing to do..."

One could argue that vegetables are living cells and that fish is meat "

Fish is meat!

Can vegans drive through towns or cities with ham in the name? I think it would be hypocritical if they did!

""I agree that you can’t be 100% vegan these days... even most premade sandwiches contain cow or pig bone in the bread (called ‘Bread Improvers’) to improve their shalf life and to stop them going soggy and moldy before the filling does..."

Pre-made sandwiches do not contain cow or pig bone. Otherwise all of the shops would be done under the Trades Descriptions Act as they mark their sandwiches as suitable for vegetarians/vegans (as long as the filling is suitable, of course).

"I would have thought ‘Yes’

(like my mate)"

Why are they not allowed to smoke ??

"Why are they not allowed to smoke ??"
Cigarettes are nearly all tested on animals and some contain castoreum which is flavouring extracted from dead beavers' anuses. (seriously)

Hand rolled cigars are OK as they're rolled on the thighs of virgins, allegedly

"Seeing as cum is very willingly given then it’s ok to swallow it.

Probably, other than in cases of r**e.

But, what if the vegan uses his or her teeth in the 'extraction'?"

Teeth generally kill any hope of extraction, so that should be ok.
