The guys are coming at 07.30 tomorrow to start doing my block driveway, looking forward to seeing how good it will look at the end. Not cheap but hopefully it will be money well spent. Anyone had a drive done and really happy with it, or wishing they hadn't bothered lol. |

I know someone who had a cheap job done many years ago. The base was just sand instead of sand & cement mix, ants eventually got under so much of it and it was like the surface of the moon after a couple of years |

"I had a quote not far off that from the council just to lower the kerb "
We're thinking of doing our drive and found out roughly how much it costs. Quite alarming when you think of how long it would take! |

I know, it takes them about an hour or two by the time the lorry of 10 men and a digger turns up. CAnt see how they justify the cost |

It's all about depth my dear.ensuring a correct sub base, with correct grade hardcore that has been compacted down making sure it's solid to prevent it dropping and there are no Gap's to allow the sand to filter thru when wet which will cause loose and dropped blocks.
Also they put the correct fall to allow water to run off and not puddle.
I am assuming that you asked to see previous jobs?
And have not handed over any money and won't until the job is complete?
I would keep a percentage back upon completion for an agreed period should any defects occur . |

Sorry - wish i never bothered. Lookz good for a couple of years but then needs jetwashing to get muck n grime off, then needs re sanding, s start coming up and gets uneven after the car's rolled over it for couple of years.
Theres one ive seen that appears more durable. Concrete that's moulded to look like bloc paving. I wish I'd kept the concrete drkve to be honest - sorry. If not too late, look into the moulded concrete option if anyone here has had it done can tell you if it's a better option |

Lorry to buy tax and insure and operate.
10 men's wages to pay.
Factory or base to operate from.
Compliance with HSE and other legal requirements
Other staff and overheads marketing admin etc costs.
Oh and may be a small profit for the company carrying out the work so that it doesn't go bust and put all its staff out of a job?
Helpful? |

Is it going to be better value than the £1000 it cost from taxpayers' money for Theresa May to send the Article 50 notice to Brussels? Email would have been fine.

More hassle than it’s worth
Block paving looks great when it’s first laid. But eventually s get in between, it needs cleaning and re packing with sand....royal pain of a job.
My parents had a 25m long drive done block paved and it was a nightmare job when it needed maintenance. |

I have went with this company because I know two other people who had work done by them are they are both very happy with the drives they had done, plus I have seen another couple of local jobs they did and they both look very well done, and one of them was a massive drive I look to see any sign of sinking every time I drive past the house, but it looks perfect -) |

Cost us £1100 10 years ago for a “ crossing” thats 18 feet wide. That’s council speak to lower the kerb and allow you to drive across the pavement. Took them roughly 2 days. |
