My roomie at work was just on the phone to someone in our London office discussing the weather, as you do.
I heard him say that he was disappointed that there was no snow cause he wanted to go out and build a ‘snow person’ with his kids.
Wtf? Building a ‘snowman’ is the phrase you’re looking for I said and he called me sexist!
The world has gone totally mental! |

I do wonder how this pc nonsense will impact in the long run .
From such ridiculous things as gender neutral primary schools , to whether it’s ok to call a blackboard a blackboard , the world has gone mad .
Maybe it’s my age , and I’m not seeing the bigger picture , but sometimes I think it’s impact will see places like Manchester and Blackpool have to be renamed eventually ! |

So everyone here, unanimously, thinks gender neutrality is silly?
I'm going to put my neck out here, and suggest that it's odd that fabswingers is so reactionary.
Obviously the snowman example is innocuous and hardly worth spending energy on in a country where snowpeople can only be built every three years. And of course, one could differentiate between genders in a snow person, in which case they come snowmen and snow-women.
But, marginally, of course it's better to say snowperson. When we're addressing people whose gender we don't know, we don't say he anymore, I presume? And we say firefighter now, don't we?
Equality is a process, not a simple belief. It takes time. Throwing the word "man" around to refer to things that might be either, shows that give men precedence.
Or something like that. It's a big topic.
Working from home is distractive! I better get back to work. |

I still say fireman and policeman. Change it to woman if it’s a woman.
It’s just as bad as seeing an article about someone saying we should call pregnant women a pregnant person. Like what the actual fuck. |

You're right, we do use firefighter now which is the proper way to say it.
We should change all names to that to be inclusive.
Firefighter.
Policefighter.
Fisherfighter.
Snowfighter.
Binfighter.
Much better. |

The world cannot be "gender neutral" because men and women are different.
Women give birth, men don't, fact.
Women are ( for the most part ) physically weaker, fact.
Women apparently have a higher pain threshold.
men and women are mentally "wired" differently, fact.
Does any of this make either of the sexes "better" than the other? Not if you are a sensible person it doesn't.
We should embrace the differences, not strive to try and make us sound and look all the same. |

I’m absolutely for people being whoever they want to be. Let me just make that abundantly clear.
A snowman is an object that we’ve all grown up knowing about. It’s not a person. It’s a sculpture made from frozen rain. Building a dog shaped snowman is still a snowman... I wouldn’t describe it as a snowdog.
I’m just not sure we need to take political correctness to that sort of level. A firefighter is a firefighter. I totally get that. A policeman or policewoman have always been part of the police force. I just don’t ever think that policeperson will trip off my tongue if that makes sense. |

Women are from Venus, Men from Mars.
On one hand we are (rightly) expected to celebrate diversity, on the other hand there’s a crusade to ‘neutralise’ everything!
I’m not sure if the person the OP refers to was being wholly serious or not, but of course equality of the sexes is a very important subject. Men and women are different, but should be equals. Getting wound up about calling a snowman a snowman, rather than snowperson, can (in my humble opinion anyway) trivialise the much more important gender equality issues out there. |

It was a tongue in cheek post to round up a bit of banter and chit chat whether that be serious or not. It is after all what forums are for.
My roomie was laughing as he told me I was sexist but he did however still use the phrase ‘snowperson’ whilst on the phone which made me roll my eyes and think the world has gone mad.
It did not make me think that people who suffer from gender issues are mad or made up or politically incorrect/correct (delete as you see fit) and the fact that I’m actually having to explain this is utterly fucking bonkers!

The term snowballs was invented for a reason.
Snow people are all men
No reasonable snowman would drive his carrot into an ice cold snow fanny to procreate. Tut don't people like reality? |

I am not sexist in anyway - just putting this out there though my girlfriends car battery has died.
Who do you think is swapping it tonight?
Does it make me sexist because i dont trust her to do it? Or is she sexist for asking me to?
Either way as long as i get a blowjob for doing it I am happy!

There are 2 genders.

The snowman is a man until someone makes the tits and vag"
Think you'll find that there are things called hermaphrodites out there too in the REAL real world.
In biology, a hermaphrodite is an organism that has reproductive organs and produces gametes normally associated with both male and female sexes. Many taxonomic groups of animals (mostly invertebrates) do not have separate sexes.
Alternative Title: monoecism. Hermaphroditism, the condition of having both male and female reproductive organs. Hermaphroditic plants—most flowering plants, or angiosperms—are called monoecious, or bisexual.
So it must be a
"monoecist snowhermaphrodite"
that we need to build from now on then.
I like it! Kind of rolls off the tongue easily don't you think? |

Secondly, whether uptight or just engaging in carefree discussion, why do you assume it's the women doing that? |

NO I DON'T agree, a snowman is a bloody snowman, it's just a phrase for fks sake...Some people build a snow woman anyway....
In a minute we won't be able to say mum and dad because it's sexist. We will have call our parents parents.
I have a milkman, he is a man. If I get a woman one, then I will have a milkwoman, I will never have a milkperson XXX
Firefighters are still mostly called firemen....because....shock, horror...most of them are MEN...but when there is a female one obviously we call them firewoman....firefighter is their job description. We don't call them fireperson.
As for the snowman that this thread is actually about.........leave him alone or he will get all angry, steam will come out of his ears and he will melt..x

Are we not man as in the race as well as gender? Mankind! |

"Gender neutral is made up.
There are 2 genders.
You cant be another or neither.
The snowman is a man until someone makes the tits and vag
Snowmen don't have any genitalia. "
Cos they are so cold they retract into the body doh |

I just googled the definition of ‘man’. The noun has 2 main definitions. One is indeed gender related and means an adult human male. However, the second definition is not gender related, and simply means ‘human being’ of either gender. For example one could say ‘early man were hunter-gatherers and lived in caves’. This statement refers to all men, women and children, therefore the word ‘man’ legitimately means ‘people’ in this context. A ‘snowman’ could mean a snow representation of man as in ‘person’, or it could mean a snow representation of a man, as in an ‘adult male’. If someone were to built 2 snowmen, one of adult size and one of child size, implying parent and child, the smaller snowman would not be a snowchild, snowgirl or snowboy. It would still be a snowman.

It’s going to make Fab a bit interesting when we all have to change our profiles to “person” , and then the search only allows you to say person looking for person, or a couple of persons.
What the fuck we all going to do if aliens come to the planet - it be racists then to refer to yourself as a person! |

Hubby was doing a staff development session at work.
The group was all female, he said morning ladies.
Manager pulled him to one side and said it was inappropriate to address the group as ‘Ladies’ |

The correct term is to build a Nonsentient Humanoid Structure of undefined Gender.
It's what the Nonsentient Humanoid Structures of undefined Gender prefer |

But the simple fact that it's humanoid (based on human form) would offend visitors from other planets. It would be speciesist.
Possibly dogs, cats, birds etc are already offended, but are unable to communicate it to us. And the mice? Well, they're the most intelligent species in the universe don't you know. |

His reply later was ‘good afternoon non gender specific human beings’
To which caused a smirk in the group except one person! |

"Who builds a snowman with a fanny?! "
Technically this is possible, but to be honest, DG, it's a lot easier, and you get far fewer strange looks from the neighbours, of you build it with your hands. |

In some parts of the USA, Vets call Dogs..
Canine four legged Support Systems.
Substitute Feline in the case of a cat.
I only know of this when British friends who live out there, learnt of this when they took their puppy to the local Vet.

"My roomie at work was just on the phone to someone in our London office discussing the weather, as you do.
I heard him say that he was disappointed that there was no snow cause he wanted to go out and build a ‘snow person’ with his kids.
Wtf? Building a ‘snowman’ is the phrase you’re looking for I said and he called me sexist!
The world has gone totally mental! "
Maybe the snow person had gender issues and was neither man nor woman |

I thought I should look up the correct way to be pc for gender correctness before sticking my nose in here – I wish I didn’t bother because I’ve only ever heard of 2 of them.
1. Heternormative
2. Cisgender
3. Transgender
4. Non-binary or genderqueer
5. They/them/theirs (gender-neutral pronouns)
As for ‘professions’ you still see female actors referred to as ‘Actor’ and ‘Actress’.
Black-boards have become ‘white-boards’ are they both politically incorrect?
Calling someone who can’t see ‘blind’ is not pc – ‘visually impaired’ is politically correct.
You can no longer be short, you have to be 'vertically challenged'.
I thought I had a good command of the English language and I thought I was very respectful to others………..apparently not

They've become 'white boards' because now they are made of white plastic.
It's absolutely nothing to do with racism.
Just another made up thing to worry about by people who are scared of change. |

I wish I could tell you I’ve been rolling giant snowballs with my fanny but I somehow didn’t come back into the thread so only saw it this morning.
