The killing of a sacred dear and Ladybird - saw both recently and highly recommend them. Star Wars was fun as well, bit long though, the casino plot line could have easily been lost. |

A lot of these suggestions are very mainstream - isn't the thread about films that have gone under the radar?
I watched 'Gold' last night, which was brilliant. I love a bit of Matthew McConnawotsit. |

The Emerald Forest.... its been around awhile and didn't get a lot of hype... but in my humble it's really really good and still offers a message we ignore... x |

Only Lovers Left Alive starring Tom Hiddleston, Tilda Swinton and John Hurt is a magnificent slice of gothic noir. A tragic tale with a killer sound track, i loved it and definitely think you should check it out. |

"City of God
I think it's off the radar but not a film buff so could be wrong and in fact everyone knows about it.
It's well worth a watch about different paths you can take growing up in Rio" wonder if Beckham watched it! |

The original Cube film, called Cube.
A great example of a DVD I picked up, very low expectations going on, but turned out much better than I imagined.
Also, The Arrival with Charlie Sheen was a bit of a gem I didn't expect much from but ended up making an impact on me.
I always thought LadyHawke was a film that would seem boring but then I watched it and was like that was actually really good. |

I used to work with a bunch of morons who don't have a clue about films (one guy saying he loved the ORIGINAL Godzilla....with Matthew Broderick!! FFS. You see what I mean) and they all said John Wick was amazing so I avoided like the plague.
I eventually gave in and I'm so glad I did coz it really is brilliant stuff |

Re discovered shogun assassin again recently, great movie and you can see how it influenced Tarantino's kill bill. If you like hip hop and specifically gza from the wu you'll love this film..so heavily sampled in the liquid swords album! |

The Intouchables. Excellent film that I saw and nearly walked out on due to subtitles. It's brilliant.
Solace. Seems to have slipped under the radar. Very good film. |

Its quite well known if you're a frequenter of the 'World Cinema' section.
From that section i'll also suggest the Russion two part vampire action films Day Watch and NIght Watch.
French romantic drama 'Blue is the warmest colour' along with a trio from the brilliant French actor Vincent Cassel - La Haine/Doberman/Mesrine
If you don't fancy subtitles, a few good Indie films are 'Me, Earl and the dying girl', 'Best Man Down' and 'Riccochet' |

If you like documentary films try “Sicko” a Michael Moore film.
And of course the best film ever made “Shawshank Redemption”
Empire strikes back is the best of the Star Wars films lol |

If you like your zombies then a Korean film called Train to Busan is ace! Ive watched it at least 7 times in Korean without any subtitles! My daughter and i made up our own dialogue.
The [Rec] films are great too, spanish with subtitles, though the american remake Quarantine with Jennifer Carpenter is just as good.
Also Mother...didnt read the write up and thought it was a supernatural/horror film but its something entirely different |

A couple of older films I love are Any Given Sunday and Man On Fire.
Blackhawk down is good one too but the book is on another level.
The Foreigner was brilliant, watched it the other night.
13 Hours in Benghazi and Hachsaw Ridge were very good films. |

I remember going to the movies one Sunday afternoon, as was my wont, but without a particular film to see. I asked whatw as up next and the ticket person said, "Bound." Hadn't heard of it so got a ticket. I thought I'd wandered into a lesbian arts festival but it turned out to be a claustrophic and stylish cross-double-cross/triple-cross mafia thriller. It was the Wachowskis' first movie, which they had to make to be allowed to make The Matrix. Bound is better. |

Baby, It's You
A romance about a boy and girl at highschool, then she goes off to college, leaving him behind. Great 60s soundtrack, with a few classic Springsteen songs. It's also the poster above my bed. |

Stumbled across a dark indie comedy with Ryan Reynolds and Gemma Arterton called The Voices, absolutely hilarious and surprisingly well acted for two people who don't normally have a great range |

Theres a few mentions of Star Wars on here, which isn't exactly something you stumble across.
Fewer people however, will have seen the films Lucas shot to enable the funding for Star Wars- THX1138 and American Graffiti...both of which are better than his most famous work |

Nyphomanic ....
trilogy with Charlotte rampling. I loved these dark and twisty films investigating into a womans psychy and submissive wants and needs. .Jamie Bell as a dom was particularly impressive considering he was a soft ballet dancing boy in last film I watched him in.

THX is a great film/book. I saw it during a BBC sci fi season when I was in my teens, it's one of the things that got me hooked on sci fi.
"Creep" (the 2014 US movie) is wonderfully off-beat and odd. I love anything horror though |

"Big fish, The Company of Wolves, 9 love these ones, not even sure how I came across the first 2 in the first place "
I still have Company of Wolves on VCR. Top, top movie.
Koyaanisqatsi - for the stoners.
Continental Divide - Jon Belushi being not John Belushi.
Neighbors - Belushi and Achroyd being Belushi and Ackroyd.
So I Married an Axe Murderer - I'm always shocked that so few people have seen Mike Myers' best movie.
Red Rock West - Twistty turny Blood Simple kinda movie.
The Tao of Steve - Based on a true story of a guy's Buddhist method for picking up women. "Be desireless, be excellent, be gone." |
