My mum does a marvellous beef stew with a tot of red wine and peppercorns in it, topped with thin sliced potatoes and Stilton. That's become the traditional Christmas Eve tea for my family.
Or my mum's shepherd pie with mustard in the mash. |

I've just bought a kilo of stewing steak cut into large chunks for a Guinness casserole.
Never thought about adding dumplings but mmmmmmm, good idea ........ except I've never made them |

Nah, the Irish beef slowly fortified by the black stuff would be the best bit
