When writing a message do you put much thought into it?
Do you think about how it might come across, do you try to impress people with wit or charm or eloquent words?
Do you go back and proof read or do you send without checking?
I guess it also depends on what you receive? |

I don't do none of that cos I don't chat to people who demand to read their profile or say specific words or what ever bullshit they write
it don't think for a sec what I want say I just start normal conversation then go with the flow and it's working for me |

If it was a pm to someone whom I read their profile. I would take my time, make it personal and make reference to their profile malenit stand out...etc. Just because that's what everyone's advice is.
I just go with what I need to say, and hope for the best. |

There and to the left a bit |
It depends and varies dependent on the recipient - if it's an unsolicited 'cold' message to someone I don't know (which I rarely send) then yes I'll proof read it and cross-check with their profile before sending.
If it's part of an on going back and forth with someone I know then I may cross check against their last message (if it's a long one) as I go along but will generally not proof read before sending. |

On the rare occasion that I have it's always thought out and a bit of whit added |

I overthink it to hell. How the other person perceives you in this case matters more than any other time. As the saying goes you only get one chance to make a first impression. I don't go out to impress in any form. I want the reciever to think I am a genuinely normal nice person. Take me as I am attitude and get across that I am all those things. I proof read as I am going then at the end. |

I put quite an effort into my messaging, particularly when making first contact. I do check for grammar and sentence structure, but i'll admit to being slightly ocd in that department.
I'd say I receive a reply back a good 75% of the time, though sometimes the response is so short and cryptic i'm left scratching my head |

I just say the first thing that comes into my head, or I like to tell them the first thing I thought when I saw their profile...doesn't always work out though

I don’t want to see a message that’s been thrown out with no thought and with nothing to reply to, get lots of single word messages or things that don’t really need a reply, are just a statement and I rarely even open them. At the same time, I try to reply to most sensible, thought out messages, even just to say not at this time but good luck, out of politeness!

This is me. I figure I want them to like me for me so I should write as I think. |

I just do a stream of consciousness now. I do try and rein it in slightly but I realised when I thought too much about things it became stilted and odd sounding, so yeah. I do apologise in advance though but they will have to deal with my atypical behaviour when we meet so fuck it. |

this is actually where this topic popped up from. I was telling someone about a conversation I was having with someone who wrote much more eloquently and concise than me and it was making me think about my replies, I felt like it was making me lose myself a bit as I wanted to impress them. |

However, it’s also worth noting that a stream of further messages after a polite “Thanks but not for us right now” will not help your case!
Always better if there is personality in the messages, want to be able to chat with people we meet too! |

I rarely send the first message these days cos I'm not actively looking to meet new people...but when I do, I reference their profile and throw in a compliment, past that I just let it flow naturally and try not to overtaking it (one of my many bad habits) |
