Chezza Nooooooooo ! Not the C word, not yet p-lease.
Already my son is leaving the ipad lying about in strategically placed notice me areas showing pictures of a BMX bike and trainers he'd like Santa to bring.
Apparently in excess of £400 is not a bad price for a BMX bike. |

He's been using the ipad since they were released last year and my friend's daughter just turned three yesterday and she uses it too. Loves the music interactive story-books and colouring apps I've downloaded for her.
They really are that easy for kids to use. xxx |

I'm not having any presents this year because I am going to Mexico next year and its just a waste of money buying me perfume, make up etc when I have more than enough. But I will start buying the odd pressie for my friends when I see them. My kids are of course my biggest expense |

I dont have children. But if I did and mine done that, what my twisted sense of humour would want to do.....
Is on Christmas morning have a stocking hung up and in each 1 would be an orange, a cpl of sweeties, a handful of monkey nuts, a small toy car/cheap ass doll......
And I would like to think I could keep that going at least for the morning.
Telling them that santa had to much to carry and thats all he could leave.
And maybe the above evilness is 1 of the reasons I dont have children.
And I dont really like small people. |

Hollywood should make a film about you.
"The Santa Slayer" - and the plot should be about a woman who hates Christmas so much she sets off for the North Pole with the sole intention of assassinating Santa and along the way she encounters lots of people who try to turn her from her mission and to convince her to accept Christmas as a happy time ... I'm fookin blubbing already... |

Loving the movie name.
Already have visions of me kickin ass Buffy style.
To anyone that gets in my way.
It would be 1 movie that didnt have a 'happy ever after' hollywood finish.
Cause I would get santa and that 1 bullet would do the job. |

Way to go Wishy n View...kindred spirits
I don't begrudge you your "kerching" _uss puss...but for me that is not what it's about.
Pressies are lovely and I get a lot of pleasure buying things for friends/family which I know they will like but.....if I never got another christmas present in my life I'd still enjoy it.
I love the carols and songs, the feeling of anticipation with the ever darkening nights. Being cosied up at home on cold afternoons watching It's A Wonderful Life, Alistair Sim in A Christmas Carol, White Christmas and any of the other wonderful christmas films. Seeing brightly glowing lights on christmas trees in house windows, streets and shopping centres festooned with lights and tinsel. Mince pies and christmas cake and snow....snow, snow, beautiful wonderful snow.
But most of all I love the memories it brings....as one of five kids in a family where money was always scarce...my parents worked really hard to make it a special time. We never did get expensive presents but I wouldn't have changed a thing...and I know each of my bothers and sisters feel the same, and those with children have given their own children the same love of Christmas. I truly feel sorry for the people who say they hate Christmas...how sad is that. Hate the commercialism if you want but that should only be a problem if you _iew that as being what christmas is about. For me it's about love and family and friendship....all things I value greatly.
We lost my darling dad a few days before christmas in 1995 - the funeral was the day before Christmas Eve....it was soooo hard, but as a family we agreed that dad would have hated us to have let it spoil christmas....so we went on with all our normal family traditions as best as we could. OK maybe we didn't enjoy our dinner as much, and there were lots of tears....and much sadness over the pile of presents left unopened under the tree, but I can honestly say Christmas still meant as much to us all. I suppose the death of my dad resulted in a new family tradition....the "do you remember when dad did/said"...he may not be with us in body but he is as much a part of our christmas as he ever was.
I know there are people who aren't fortunate to have the wonderful christmas memories I have, and I find it difficult to imagine. But I will say to anyone and everyone...christmas is what you make it. There are more than enough shite things in life...why not try to make christmas special for yourself and the people you care about......and if you can't be bothered...well bah humbug to you! |

Christmas 2009 was a special one for us as it was our son's 1st Christmas and my parents came up to stay bringing my daughter with them. On Xmas Eve we went to Beamish and whilst there it snowed and in the reconstructed Edwardian village they have there they had an old traditional Barclays Bank and outside it a real Xmas tree, and in that tree my daughter spotted a real robin - on Xmas Eve with it snowing! It really made her day!
Earlier that day I'd gone to the turkey farm to collect our Xmas bird and when we got home from Beamish we had mulled wine and baked potatoes, while we put the finishing touches to decorations, prepped xmas dinner and then sat down and watched It's A Wonderful Life - and that year, it really was.
The commercialisation of Xmas can be ignored if that's how you _iew it, but everyone is entitled to make a buck for a decent standard of living and I don't begrudge them that - Charles Dickens was doing the very same thing when he wrote A Christmas Carol lol.
The thing with life is that you can let it kick the fook out of you on a regular basis if you are so inclined, or you can sidestep the lows and embrace the highs as much as you can.
I prefer the latter, and Xmas - to me - is one of the highs. |
