Care? It's more of an observation plus something different to discuss |

I don't actually use it, I'm one that types "hahaha" or just use a
I find that "lol" is over used, just like "rant over" when there hasn't been a rant, and so has lost it's meaning making it easily ignored and pointless. |

"I probably use it a lot...my niece used to say "lol" instead of laughing....drove me nuts"
That reminds me of when Bill Bailey got the audience to just say "lol" instead of laughing, it was a bit creepy and kinda showed how it no longer portrays "laughing out loud", it's really quite sterile. |

Aren't they all these days? Not only that, there's also the confusion, I thought it meant "lots of love"! |

Being old, 'Lol' just doesn't seem to be at the forefront of my brain when I want to convey my amusement. I tend to use 'ha ha' too though that's not failsafe either as I've sometimes been asked if I'm being sarcastic so then feel I have to add a big grinning emoji as well for avoidance of doubt.
Maybe it's easier, albeit more time consuming, to write 'that really made me laugh' ?? |

I try not to use such fads as best possible. Having said that, composed text, as stark as it appears, often precludes or at least obfuscates nuances of humour in many instances and can often be misinterpreted on the internet by some. In such instances, a ‘lol’ here or there may serve to reinforce that what has been written was in fact implied in jest (thus avoiding the inevitable cascade of vitriol from overly sensitive and/or reactionary readers) Um....lol |

I don't really mind Lol in itself,it's just another piece of shorthand but, when it's attached to something that's not even remotely funny it just makes me think of someone laughing at their own jokes.
Right,I'm just going to make another coffee and start getting ready for work.Lol.
See what I mean? |
