I've only just recently seen elephants and giraffes in the flesh for the first time, and they really are magnificent. The size of them sort of shocked me (though I knew they weren't tiny!). Truly awe inspiring and a pleasure to be able to see them up-close. |

Yes, me too. I can't get my head round some of the creatures we *do* know about, let alone the probability that there are still animals in the depths which humans haven't yet seen |

I'm very much looking forward to Blue Planet 2 to see what else is down there. |

"We had a great spotted woodpecker in the tree just outside our front door the other day.
It is the first time I've seen one up close and in the feathers."
I'm lucky enough to live right on the edge of woods where you can sometimes creep up on great spotted woodpeckers (you hear them much more than you see them though). I find it genuinely exciting to see a creature you've never seen before ... I saw puffins for the first time last weekend and was delighted by that |

You are completely right! It brings back all the magic and wonder of being a child when you come across an animal you've never seen before.
A few months back I saw a mole crawling around the garden and was filled with glee. So small! Such large hands!
Where did you see puffins? I've only ever seen them from a distance at Puffin Island |

At Bempton on the Yorkshire coast. I only saw four as it's right at the end of the season there for them but that was still thrilling enough, and also saw loads of gannets and gannet chicks which I'd never seen before either so was more than happy. |

And when the Zoo does it early morning register the Aardvark always has its name called first. Just like school.
'Present Sir'.
The Zebra gets an extra 45 minutes in bed. |

The way a sloth moves is about the only animal I can't watch, very slow and deliberate, creepy! and with that long, bony, pointy finger for digging out ants . Although the babies look adorable |

Bumped for Thrillseeker.
However while I'm at it.
White Moose.
It made the news yesterday. Majestic looking animal but wasn't an albino.
Could be the only one ever. All its mates are brown and normal.
I wonder if the daddy was like when the mother gave birth to it. And the mummy was like |

Good chance it was a colour morph. There are literally thousands of colour and pattern variations of corn snakes out there. Same with royal pythons too. There are some amazing reticulated python morphs now, as well |
