Always thought I'd choose the RAF if I had to choose. Though I was brought up in Sandhurst and would have liked to have gone to the RMA.
It's one of those things I look at and wonder what if... then on the other hand it sounds great until you find yourself in a war zone

I was in the Army & the highlight was sleeping with an officer lady who was a captain & i was only a lance corporal. Was while we were ski-ing i was in mens team she,was in ladies team. |

I did try to join the army a few years ago but had to pull out due to some pretty bad family issues during training.
Have huge amounts of respect for all branches of the armed forces |

Got accepted as an Artificer in the navy, failed the medical due to an injury. |

I remember those recruitment adverts well......
I was tempted by the prospect of a merchant navy career but it was at that time when cargo ships were becoming containerized and that meant less time in port exploring exotic locations which kinda spoilt the whole point too me..
Ended up with a life on oilrigs ..... |

Wish I'd joined the army when I was younger. Been thinking a lot about joining my local TA unit recently. My dad did 25 years in the regulars and then joined the TA when he left. Both m brothers have been in the TA too. |

Both em and myself served in the senior service. The Royal navy is the only service to have it's own army and air Force. The army don't have ships and the air Force don't have soldiers. Well they have the raf reg but that's only in place to stop looting of the naafi |

RAF 11 years. Seen a fair bit of the world, had many great adventures, seen some amazing (and tragic) things and worked my nuts off. Learnt a lot and its was the greatest education I could have imagined. Also put me in a great position to get the highly sort after job I do now. Wouldn't have changed it for the world but I don't work well when you have kids who deserve to have their daddy around.
Worked a lot with the Army in my job. Great lads and girls. But seeing the way they work and more to the point are treated I know I made the right call at the AFCO. I say to anyone thinking of joining if you can get yourself in the RAF do it (especially a technical trade). Not worked much with the Navy bar a random Navy bloke in Kabul, so cant really comment on them. |

The RAF Reg are also good for making the Gym look busy when the Firemen are out playing volleyball. Joking aside they are very well trained and do very specialist and specific infantry role in the defence of air assets and air operations. |

We took some on a patrol with us.so we took 1 snatch with 4 guys and there vehicle with 4 of there's. They had .50s mounted and when we came under a very heavy contact they just withdrew them selfs back to the apod without a word to us. We could have been slaughtered because of them cowards. My coy Sgt maj went mad at them. Funilly enough they ever came out again. Got filled in every time my pl came across them aswell. Spineless cowards.they are a joke of a unit |

After seeing how things are in the army side of the house I thank my lucky stars I had the sense to go to the RAF desk at the AFCO. No disrespect to the Army, worked with some corking people. But in my field we hard far more training, responsibility from the lowest level and a load less bullshit to deal with. To be fair often the army side of the house looked pretty grim. I made the right descision and it set me up nicely when leaving into my civilian career once family responsibilities trumped my military career. |

Was an electro mechanical engineer in the Army for 19 years. Loved every minute, however I wouldn't advise any young person to join as the Tories are stripping back all of the post service benefits that made the poor pay, housing and time away from families worth it.
I should have followed my gut instinct at 18 and headed off to Paris to join the Foreign Legion |

"RAF 11 years. Nature of my trade seen me spending a lot of it working closely with the army. After seeing how things are in the army side of the house I thank my lucky stars I had the sense to go to the RAF desk at the AFCO. No disrespect to the Army, worked with some corking people. But in my field we hard far more training, responsibility from the lowest level and a load less bullshit to deal with. To be fair often the army side of the house looked pretty grim. I made the right descision and it set me up nicely when leaving into my civilian career once family responsibilities trumped my military career.
And who let out the self-righteous prig; someone stuff it back in it's crate. Vacuous or what? Do not ever look down on me or my peers for having the where-with-all to join the Army.

Why the hatred. He just said he made the right choice for him. I have worked with all 3 services. They attract different people. The army is far more structured with less scope for movement outside the linear rank structure (REME and AAC aside in my experience) Air force, especially on the technical side is a far more cooperative work place. Navy were always a bit too tied up in tradition for my liking. Only worked with a handful of our RM brethren, but they were ok once you got past the weirdness |

I tried hard to get in, passed the entrance exams to enter the navy in the engineering branch. Only to fail a medical due to being partially sighted in one eye. |

I failed my medical but I made an effort to join.
They say my condition would be a risk. I never agreed with that.
I know many people served with my condition in the past but now they are strict about it.
I felt disheartened. I wanted to do all that stuff and they recomended the job center instead.
They said in a genral statement "people with your condition have reacted badly in combat situations"
^^^which would assume every other person would find it a walk in the park?
I respect people who do that though. It's obviously stressful....even though i simply wanted to join RLC

You choose to be ignorant that the world isn't the narcasistic safe space you always wanted.
What have you done for the bennefit of others?
Horrible things happen to soldiers and marines who defend the rights of narcasists to be nob heads freely.
Missions that do for disasters or to destroy criminals pirates terrorists dictators and war lords.
And you choose to genralise it entirely.
If you care so deeply about being a pacifist you would be doing charity volunteering...

Having dated and loved a service man, I can assure you they don’t like going to war. That decision is made by the prime minister or president of a country.
Their personal views don’t matter when their “boss” wants them to do put their life at risk. The number of times I have died worrying if he will return safely without any interval scarring.
No one likes going to war - least of all their families or those who love them. |

Army reserve, still serving.
Folks who have a problem with the forces - there is no conscription in the UK at the moment so anyone serving has volunteered to do so for a variety of reasons, but all would fight and die to defend this country and its people (including those who hate the forces) so you don't have to. We don't get to pick the wars that are started but still have a need to maintain a standing army, navy and air force to cover any eventuality. |

Definitely not the Navy due to suffering from sea sickness. But strange as it is I ended up in a job designing and installing equipment on ships then having to go to sea and test it |

No not marines, I know they are good. We had a load of matelots join us on Thetford ranges a couple of years back and they looked a bit scared when they had to shoot |

Air Force .. and just loved it . Everything had its own thrill . Did 9 years flying bombers , three major wars and close to death about 8times . Then went to work in intelligence and now logistics . It’s amazing how much variety is there though Navy can have limited options I can understand ...

The TA is now the reserves so it’s different ..... allegedly.
I was only in the RMR long enough to qualify, kinda wanted a green one to see if it was nicer than the maroon one.
Failed to get in at kingstanding so it was compensatory. |

The three I was on about is P coy, camando course and SF acquaint.

So how long were you in the RMR before you did the Reserve Forces Commando Course?
