Morning facateers.. Humpty Dumpty was actually a powerful cannon used in the Siege of Colchester during the English Civil War. In the summer of 1648, Humpty Dumpty was mounted on the peak of a wall which lay in front of the St Mary's Church in Colchester protecting the city against siege...... Educating the masses |

I LOVE learning about the origins of nursery rhymes.
The 'mulberry bush' was in the grounds of Wakefield prison. I've worked there a few times and always like imagining where it would be when looking out the windows. |

Colchester is also where "twinkle twinkle" was written. And where "Old King Cole" came from.
Nursery rhyme capital of the UK!
Actually it was also the capital of Roman Britain till that mardy bird from Norfolk burned it... |

....in the early 80's the first 10k pressings of 'blue monday' by new order were labelled incorrectly so the 'a' side was actually 'the beach' and the 'b' side was 'blue monday'.
Something to look out for as they are worth a fortune now.
(Just thought id throw that in). |

I thiught it came from the battle of flanders in the 1790s because the battle was fought on a foggy day the duke didnt know where the enemy was so marched his troops all over the field |

I always thought it was to do with Charles 1st reign in 1600's, which all lead from the gunpowder plot. Think it was the 1640s a challenge to the thrown came from York to London and got their arsed handed to them |
