Non-Horror Movies That Scared Us As Kids

What has been the non-horror movie that scared you as a kid?

For me it was Ghostbusters 2. Silly I know but this movie was darker than the first movie. What scared me was the painting of the movie's villain Vigo The Carpathian. It was the way he was staring out of his painting that unnerved me. I couldn't even watch the movie until many years later.

There and to the left a bit

Not quite as a kid, more teens was the thriller Dressed To Kill with Angie Dickinson and Michael Caine...checked under the bed and in the wardrobes before going to bed after seeing that!!

Childcatcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang petrified me as a kid though

That movie had a moment that scared me as a kid. It was the scene when the dog Barney jumps over the counter at the bank startling Mrs Deagle causing the snowman's head she was holding to smash on the floor. I don't know why but the shot of the smashed snowman's head on the floor really upset me

I remember being unnerved by seeing that severed leg after that bloke gets knocked out of the boat by the shark.

When the lawyer gets eaten by the T-Rex in Jurassic Park, I remember staying in the cinema lobby throughout the rest of the movie after that.

That's just reminded me of the time not long after I saw Jaws that I went swimming and was the only person in the outdoor pool for some reason and spent the whole (brief) time I was in there scared that I was going to be eaten by a Great White...illogical I know...but I was about 10 or 11 at the time!!

that was handy, that the series was called the boy from space coz i didn't know what it was called, just what it was about. just watched a couple of clips and wonder why they made us watch that in the infants?

The scene in Superman 3 where the character Vera gets cyberized by the super computer was pretty horrifying. I can still remember leaving the room as the kid every time that scene was coming up and wait until after she had been fully cyberized.

The super computer itself in the movie was scary as well when it becomes self aware and starts draining all the electricity causing major wide blackouts across the country. For a Superman movie, this was pretty dark and this was a year before we were introduced to Skynet in The Terminator.

All three indiana jones movies had moments that scared me as a kid.

The opening of the ark in Raiders was horrifying especially when Toht's head melts.

Donovan's death in Last Crusade had me shooting out of the room when he started aging rapidly after drinking the wrong grail.

In Temple of Doom, the only that had me leaving the room all the time was not any of the deaths but the eyeball soup during the dinner scene. I don't know why but I just didn't like anything to do with eyes.

Speaking of eyes, I still can't watch Total Recall because of the the nightmare scene at the beginning and the villain's death at the end where the eyes protrude out of the sockets. I can't stand the villain's horrific gasps for air during that scene either.

I agree. The POV shots are creepy and this was before it was used in the first Evil Dead movie.

The one scene that scared me was that jumpscare on the ghost train with a freaky looking dummy of a ghost or monster. I still can't stand that horrible screeching noise it makes.
