Having had a few reasonably fast cars over the years new cooper S's etc I have now gone a step further and acquired a Bmw 135! My god does it shift and sound good 326 bhp standard. 0-60 5.0 seconds but beyond that I love it every time I start it up. But I'm not sure it ticks all the boxes and already I'm wondering what I will replace it with. But for now I will enjoy the 3.0 litre straight 6 beast snarling at me |

They are very special cars indeed and only a very few would feel more special in my opinion.
Porsche Cayman S is probably the best drivers car for sub 20k for a good example. Get a second car if you need more than 2 seats
Other than that, a decent 911 could be had for £25k.
All depends what you really want from a car. For me it's all about driver involvement. |

Love the Cayman and older 911, truth be known if I had the money a 356 C would rock my world, not fast but those lines. The 135i gives the Cayman a good run for its money, put it in sport + and watch the back end slip and slide and make you smile. |

I have an M3 evolution as a guy car, a Mitsubishi Fto as my girl car and a transit van as my work vehicle.
It doesn't matter what you drive or how fast it is, there's always a transit right up your arse trying to pass you |

"The M3 isn't much between the 135i on paper, but how's the FTO, I have always admired it's lines but what's its performance like? "
On paper it's slow but catch it right at the right revs and it surprises you. |

In order of ownership.
Mk1 ford capri 3.0E.
Ford mexico escort.
ford ticford Bi turbo V6 3.0 capri.
Pontiac firebird 1972 model (smokie and the bandit).
Lotus cortina.
lotus super 7.
Caterham super 7.
MGF.
Current car is a sleeper, on the surface it's your every day Ford Focus 2.0 Ghia.under the skin is a Ford V6 with twin turbos, currently 2 wheel drive but 4 wheel drive is being worked on as we speak, power to the wheels is 480bhp 0-60 in under 4 sec through a sequential gearbox.
makes a few "boy racers" look twice when it beats them at the lights lol as it is driven by a 60 year old.
my obsession with power and speed has not only been 4 wheeled.
I've owned bikes too.
Gsxer 750/1100's
Honda fireblades.
Yamaha RD500Lc
Suzuki RG 250
and a pure sport GSXR RR 1380 turbo special.
But the best ride of all is that that mother nature offer's " a good woman" 0- heaven every time lol |

But should I buy a 5.0 Mustang after hiring one in a America or is it silly over here? |

I've had a E60 AMG v8 Mercedes.
I've had a BMW 740i 4.4 v8 gas converted for fuel economy.

I had a classic 1968 Fiat 500 Arbaith and a 1275 Gt Mini, neither were what you would class as fast but they would beat a lot of "fast cars" at the lights. Being sat a couple of inches off the ground meant you always felt like you were going for it.

I did a track day a few months ago, got to drive the Ariel Atom, Lamborghini Gallardo, Porsche 911 GT3, Aston Vanquish and Ferrari F430.
My God the Atom was fun! Was quite disappointed with the Aston and Lambo though, didn't like the way they drive at all, but the raw power of the 911 under the right foot was epic! |

Many years ago I built my dream Sierra Cosworth. I spared no expense and it was eventually putting out 575bhp at the wheels (tested on a dump). The only problem was that it was utter hell to drive in traffic because it had a stage 3 paddle clutch that was either in or out with virtually no biting point. I basically stalled it a lot or launched off the traffic lights at 3,000 miles an hour.
I eventually had to sell it to a guy who used it for track days. |

built and owned a MK1 Cortina 2dr 3.5 bored to 4.6 jwr inlet with a 390 4 barrel various other parts made it go through the terminal lights in just over 10 seconds on street tyres. "Currently driving the mk3 Focus RS, ridiculous amount of fun to be had on country roads "
The Focus RS is the only Ford I've been remotely interested in for over a decade.
I'm kinda disappointed in the new Alfa Giulia, which looks just as bland as most other saloons on the road at the moment. It's a real pity they've lost their design flair recently. |

Fastest car we've owned was a deresricted Lorinser E38 750i BMW, fully loaded up it was still going at 170.
But bikes have always been my thing & have cracked the magic 200mph on a hyperbike & travelled 165miles in 100 minutes (during the day on A & M roads), something you really couldn't manage in a car in the UK..
There's fast for a moment or two then there's a motorbike

My first car, and still my favourite was a Mk1 XR2 - not sure of the bhp on those, but it only had 4 gears, yet doing 90mph on a disused runway in 4th and flooring it, still made the front end lift as it accelerated away. Brutal at times, but cornered 'like it was on rails' |

A proper original Audi quattro turbo has got to be one of the most exciting and useable cars out there. Would also like an early Mustang for the looks and the sounds, but I doubt it'd be all that great to drive. |

Had an Audi S2 Avant for 9 years. Fast and usable in all conditions but discreet. Surprised many drivers who thought they were driving a fast car. Bought a Jag XK8 to replace it but it was such an old man's car and nowhere near as fast. The S2 stayed and the XK8 didn't last long. |

For me it's gotta be the Jaguar XKR, I've never owned one but I have driven one.... 3.30am, 165mph on the 483. I won't go into the nitty gritty but the crux of the story is, £12 taxi fare or a go in his car. Best £12 I never spent!

Audi RS4 was a beaut to drive. Unexpectedly fast and used to cause the boy racers to do a double take. a quandary, could you change my mind? |
First car was a kit, Ford Mexico based rear wheel drive rocket from 0-75..
Others cars since XJR super charged, Mercedes 420, BMW 760.
The one that still is able to put a smile on my face is the BMW, visually just a standard car, no major clues of how good it was. |

Renaultsport Megane dci 175 (economical but quick diesel)
Mazda 6 MPS (2.3 turbo, AWD, 260bhp - great sleeper car - but thirsty)
Currently... Saab 9-3 (twin turbo diesel saloon, de-cat, re-mapped, 225bhp, 360lb/ft - very nippy, huge torque and 600 mpg)
" was that Mazda the one with the strut brace in the boot? Great sleeper car! |

Loving reading about everyone's cars and dream cars! We have a few cars, some fast some not so fast lol but each have their purpose. But if we wanna really go fast nothing beats the bikes. |

600mpg? thats some remapping!
i only get about 47mpg out of my TTID estate
Sorry...typo! 600 miles on a tank...55mpg
still doing better than me- must be the lead foot or the extra weight of the eastates arse end
The re-map increased the economy, I was previously getting around 47mpg.
but do you still get the acceleration?
i quite fancy the extra MPG, but i'm not sacrificing the extra beans as its the only way to deal with the fuckmuppets on the M6
"
Yes, acceleration improved substantially in all gears, but 3rd and 4th are particularly good now. Best motorway weapon I've owned. PM me if you'd like the details on the tuning company I used. |

"Audi RS4 was a beaut to drive. Unexpectedly fast and used to cause the boy racers to do a double take. My favourite car I've driven and not owned would be the Aston Vantage V12 - Aberdeenshire has perfect roads for putting it to it's full limits and I'm itching to return and try out the Cairngorms. "
Now thats impressive great choice |

Back when a few of you weren't about and I was earning a stupid amount of money for a nineteen year old my first car bought the day after passing my test was a 68 3.8 S-Type Jag, cost nearly twice as much to insure as buy!! Three months later it was joined by a 67 Merc 280se 3.5 Coupe. Kept them both for a couple of years.
Tbh with a few exceptions its been downhill ever since

Had plenty of cars, some good some shite!
Favourites that I've owned would be escort cosworth and rs6 avant
If I could put 2 on my drive right now it'd be the Aston Martin Vulcan and the RR Sentinal |
