It's not being plugged as much as Charles and Diana's: that was in your face 24/7. I could be biased as I got married in 1981 and I had a ring along the same design as Diana's: I had mine first, but naturally it drew comparisons, and not always favourably.
I wish William and Kate all the best, as I would anyone getting married, but I have no interest or desire to watch it. If the day is nice I'll be relaxing in my garden with an ice cold Peroni! |

Im oddly excited about it. Think im the only person mind.
Partly down to it being because my friends all have time off and we are meeting up for a bbq & drinks etc.. in the evening its fancy dress down town so should be a good day |

Far from a royalist so totally underwhelmed. will be gettiong out of London hopefully, if not certainly staying away from the centre as it will be chaos with police and tourists. |

Well i thought it was on monday but it seems its on friday. I shall find out the time and if im not doing anything will put it on to see her dress then switch it back off again and then avoid the television for the next 6 months. |

We are all older and more cynical and less into the fairy tail prince, castle and princess theme. Also after Charles being prince in waiting for god knows how many years many are jaded and less enamoured by the monarchy these days. |

Best of luck to them, but to be quite honest, I couldn't give a monkeys fuck about any of the royals, these pair included.
I hope it works for them, but if it doesn't - who cares ? It sure won't increase the value of the £ in my pay packet ....  |

I think its easy to forget how 'Di-mania' gripped the public all of those years ago. It was bordering on hysteria at all of the hype. I think this royal wedding has been pretty low key for obvious reasons. William saw how it destroyed his mother in the end and has probably taken lots of precautions to get the balance right this time and protect his future wife. Which shows a great maturity. Something his father and the royal household failed miserably to do for Diana. She was nineteen years old and its easy to forget she was merely a teenager marrying a wordly wise old goat brought up in the spotlight. No wonder she had issues.
The revenue this wedding will bring into our country from tourism/sightseeing is a boost to the economy. The royal family holds an intrigue that will always keep the cash registers tinging. I think their price tag of a 62p cost in taxes per person in the UK is a pretty good return. |

i have to say being hones the royals do generate much more income than they take from the exchequer.
im sorry but its true andi believe the queen is paying for this one out of her own money.
ok, again that has come from the tax payer but her income has slightly fallen over the years and she has been getting less of it.
but they do bring in more to this country than they take.

The NHS has a huge budget and the 62p would make no difference. As far as Im concerned until the government stop wasting the NHS budget by chopping and changing it I'd rather it didn't keep throwing good money after bad.
As it is not an either or situation I'd rather all bad causes had no money thrown at them either and those generating more income to the country were sustained, like that generated from having a royal family and historical buildings of interest. Foreign money coming into the country adds to the pot.
There is no doubt this royal wedding will give the 62p back a millionfold. Sick people will still be treated too. Non sick people will still be abusing the system. Life does not all hinge on the nhs being given more and more of a budget does it? |

The royal family are the reason Britain became great Britain.
i wish them all the best, i wont watch it, as when going to mates weddings, they bores the life out of me.
what ever the wedding costs, i can guarantee that the global interest and increase in tourism will dwarf the wedding costs.
why else would any foreign persons come to an expensive wet cold country like this other than to soak up its history and great buildings.
this wedding is just adding to that history, be it be good or bad.

Just a thought - who's employer is refusing to give paid leave for the wedding? I have heard there are quite a few people choosing to work as normal to benefit their company in these hard times, but not many meanie employers seem to be insisting on staff having to turn in. |

No it probably doesnt as thats more down to poor management but i can still think of a whole lot better things to do with my hard earned cash than waste it on the royal family  |

Well of course, thats a given - we enjoy a 24/7 emergency service as well as an excellent service and retail industry. I meant who of those who enjoy the annual bank holidays have been refused this additional one?
Not all income tax revenue can be given to the NHS as a comparison is what I meant regarding nhs having the 62p instead of the royals. Without it the sick still get treated. Without a royal family this country would suffer financially and thats a hard fact. Civil list is going to be a thing of the past anyway because the queen is set to have income from the Crown estates for the wind farms in the sea which will reduce the amount from the civil list that is currently taken, cancelling it out entirely when this project starts turning (pardon the pun) a profit. Plus they will be paying huge amounts in tax themselves from the crown estates profits. Its not as if they don't run profitable and therefore tax generating schemes as a business enterprise. They run very successful tax paying businesses that employ thousands. In my opinion they are wrongly labelled 'scroungers' from the fact they return the civil list through the crown estaste taxes anyway. |
