I remember when BBC2 was first broadcast and in order to receive it you had to have a bit added to the tv aerial to pick up the signal. We couldn't afford it but my mother used to make us sit and watch The High Chaperal and Call My Bluff holding a knitting needle against the telly top aerial and we got a very 'snowy' picture that rolled all the way through the prog!' Can you imagine any kids doing that these days!!! It was a hoot! |

Old fashioned Grandads were such cards Diamond! Mine would buy a rabbit for me just before I left to go back home after spending the summer hols with him and my nana. Around the end of October I'd receive a letter saying poor old 'Snowy' had died in the first frosts. Of course old snowy was in the cooking pot but I didn't latch on till I was about 25!!!! |

I used to tape the Top 20 as well. I was just a separate tape recorder, didnt have an inbuilt radio, so I had to place the radio near to the tape recorder and when a record came on, press two keys for record. You could always guarantee my mother would be shouting up the stairs at the crucial time of me taping my favourite record, and Id have, teas ready, come down now, halfway through a great track |

My mum finally agreed to let me stay up on a school night to watch Old Grey Whistle Test as it was on after 11pm. I remember having crying hysterics because The Faces had to cancel and couldn't appear one week. She came downstairs and gave me such a crack for waking everyone up! |
