Do you like to have a suntan, do you fake it or do you prefer to be pale skinned. A few years ago I loved having a tan and would plaster on St Tropez and occasionally use sunbeds in the summer. On holiday abroad, id use a factor 20 but still lie and sunbathe on the beach. For the last two years I havent bothered putting on fake tan. Tho id probably sunbathe on holiday, I wouldnt go on sunbeds again and I try and keep my face out of the sun. Ive got to the age where i cant afford the sun to accelorate the aging process and i dont want to end up looking like that woman on Benidorm

I'm pale, always will be and I'm not sure I'd look right now with a tan! I do sunbathe a bit, but I burn easily so I tend to stay in the shade during the hottest hours. Fake tan is just too much hassle, I can never be bothered with it.

I used to think that having a tan looked lovely in the warm weather with a strappy dress, but now im just gonna accept my paleness, tho a tan does hide imperfectations

Nope, as I tan easily and the tan stays for ever!

Got burnt badly when I was 14 for being too cocky and did not believe I needed much protection. Wrong!

Never been in the sun for too long after that, except for walking/cycling with the pooch.

I'm pale, but tan to a lovely golden brown with proper care and attention.

I'm lucky, I hold a tan for months, so my tan from Christmas and New Year in Egypt is still golden.

I must admit, I feel better with a tan so I'm just going to have to do 3 or 4 holidays a year from now on..........

Best tell Jason to get earning!

I was about to come on and impart wisdom about the oak bark tanning process until I realised it was about sun tans.

I'm one of these people who tans when I hang the washing out on the line. I do use factor 25 sun screen though cos it prevents the sun damage. And my everyday moisturiser for my face is factor 25 come rain or shine.

being scottish, I am usually a very fetching shade of milk-bottle blue. Looking forward to the summer so I can be pale pink

Too high a sun protection factor is also not good as it prevents vitimin D from being produced in the body which is caused by exposure to the sun. There are more cases of that old disease of rickets occuring and the scientist are saying it due to lack of exposure to the sun. Dr Hilary reckons factor 25 is high enough as you still have to apply as often as you would if you were using a higher factor as a higher factor does not last any longer.

I prefer my natural colour as it looks better on me and i don't want to end up looking like a wizened prune.

I don't sunbathe but am a keen gardener and very outdoorsy so in summer my arms are always tanned darker than anywhere else and I have a brown chest I slap high factor on during the summer after morning shower if Im planning a day outside. I can't stand the thought of accidently being burned as I strip off more and more as the day goes on it has to be the worst feeling in the world lying in bed on fire but too sore to let anyone near!!

My girls fake tan and I go off it if they stay here and it goes all over the bedding and towels. But none of them use sunbeds now which is a relief. So a bit of extra laudering is worth it.

I'm a 'fetching' shade of white. In the summer I go lobster and peel and back to white without sun cream

I'd love to tan. With a blonde mother and a ginger dad I didn't stand much chance of having easy-tan genes though Tans cover up imperfections
