Cousin ...... twice removed.
Your grandfather had 23 children. That makes one of his children either your grandmother or your grandfather. The other 22 would be their siblings.
Your grandmother/grandfathers children would be cousins to the other children had by the other 22.
Therefore, your grandmother/grandfathers child (either your mother or your father) would be cousins once removed, to any other children of your grandmother/grandfathers siblings.
The children of the siblings of your mother/fathers would therefore be cousins, twice removed (removed by grandparents and great grandparents!)

right, my great grandad had 23 children, one was my granny another was this ladies mother, which made this lady and my granny half sisters as they where by two wives. The woman in question is the daughter of my grannies half sister. Its not a quiz or anything but i was chatting to the daughter today and we couldnt work out what relation we where to each other |

I THINK, the 'step' line dies out after two generations.
Therefore, if thats correct, she is nothing to you.
Otherwise, she is your step-cousin twice removed.

wouldn't it be her aunt though if its the daughter of her grannies half sister? or am i missing something thats obvious

If your Great Grandad had a daughter she would be your grandads sister or your grandmas sister and your dads aunty or your mums aunty. She could of course be your gran.
IF. She is your Grandads sister or your Grandmas sister then it follows that she is your dad's aunt or your mum's aunt and there the calculation ends. She would simply be your dad's aunt or your mum's aunt. I guess she'd be your great aunt.
You never said if it was your great grandad on your mums side or your dads side. So I did both. Same thing xx |
