We withdraw from Afghanistan this year, it's a commitment.

What have we achieved?

We will have to wait and see, if the people of Afghanistan have a slightly better life in two years time then and international terrorism is less organised then they have achieved something, if that still holds in ten years time then they have achieved a lot.

If girls can be educated, women given the vote and equality for all regardless of gender, race, religion and sexual orientation then job done. Fear Taliban will be back when our boys come home. Honour and respect to those who wont be returning and love to their families.

I wonder how much of that is real change and how much is propaganda.

As for the Taliban, they have not been defeated and have known for a few years now that we are withdrawing in 2014.

Having spent a lot of time over there I can tell you that it is real change. We qerent just over there shooting at people, we were building schools and escorting children to school too. We weren't over there to fight the Taliban perse either, we were there for Al Qaeda, the Taliban simply chose to ally themselves with them.

Those who think it wasn't our war seem to forget the London bus attacks which would have happened regardless of whether we were there or not as Al Qaeda will attack any ally of America.

Yes, they are coming home.

I cam3 home Christmas 2012, shocked and weary but I came home. I am now helping get the rest of them back.

Regardless of what ever anyone thinks about it, our men and WOMEN (respect for remembering that Granny), will be home (in the majority) by end of Oct.

I just wish everyone would be glad of that fact and leave the politics and hatred for the situation out of the equation and have a little respect for those of us who went out to do a job, rather than thinking we are mindless idiots drawn by propaganda and bad judgement.

K for one will be remembering those we lost but also will be relieved that we can, will and have, brought so many home safe and sound.

As for the reasons why, what, who, how and have we made a difference. Don't believe everything you read or hear. There are those that know the true cost of what will be left behind and it's definately NOT all bad.

It is entirely reasonable and not conflicting to question the validity or achievements of a war whilst supporting fully the individuals serving in that war.

It is only by asking such questions that conclusions as to whether the terrible costs paid by our service personal was worth it.

Criticism of the Afghanistan conflict is NOT criticism of our armed personal, in my opinion.

I don't accept that there is any contradiction between respecting and supporting a professional carrying out their duty and questioning aspects of their personal opinions. The two are independent of each other.

The prison wardens detaining Nelson Mandela may or may not have believed he should have been behind bars, but that personal opinion was not relevant to them carrying out their duty.

I disagree with some of your personal opinion as do some other serving personnel. I do however honour those who have professionally carried out their duty.

Enjoy your Saturday.

Both sides of this struggle have pushed their fair share of propaganda, the truth is probably somewhere closer to the middle. Don't forget we've been negotiating with the Taliban for at least 2 years.

Do you believe we went to Afghanistan to build schools and get women the vote?
