Now im not saying this is 100% but...fab is now hosted on Melbourne hosting ... as is www.dogging.co.uk .. Which uses the same software as Fab now uses !! So if you look at how Dogging gets funding is this the way Fab will be? But if it is i dont care as this is a great site and if you wish to use Webcams then you should pay for them cos that sort of thing isnt cheap ! Just a thought as to why the ads might have gone ! |

you all wanna start paying to get your meets? sure fabswingers becomes your pimp and u start whoring yourselfs out coooooooool
other sites manage fine as free sites they change to paying sites when owners start wanting a wage which is ok cos we all need a wage what i dont think is fair is joining a site which says free for life (or something like that) but then turns out not to be? |

If you look at the other site they only seem to charge for the web chat and not for anything else.. i think its the way forward.. Still might not happen here but if it did i think its good as you only play... sorry pay for what you use ! |

Well when the chat rooms went down a few months back there was a thread offered to see what peoples views were on paying for webcam use, it was suggested that it might be £12.
The majority of people were very willing to pay, I well remember a thread on the forums when we first joined about who was willing to pay,..and the same result was given..people are willing to pay for a good site.
.... but, before we put it in our minds that this IS the way the site is going, we dont know that, and until we do, lets not make too much of it, it realy is suprising who easily these rumours start

Blimy.....
I think anyone providing all this for nothing.. and yes it does cost money to set up and run, both in hard cash and time and effort, would be well justified in making a small amount of profit..
Other sites that are far poorer quality than this were free.. and then charged after a while to new members who wanted to join. The original members have stayed free.. If thats what happens it happens and if it doesn't suit people they have the same options as anyone.. don't use lol! Can't see an issue at all... so why make one lol..???

Pay site or free?
If you start charging people will run like the wind, as there are just too many free sites out there.
It does cost money to run a site but not as much as people imagine, roughly you can get a dedicated server to run a site like this for about £60 - £70 per month, OK there is some time involved deigning and building a site like this, roughly for someone with good html, CSS and either PHP or ASP programming skills could do it in about a week (Part-time), so I think £12 is very steep!
Problem is using advertising is not a good solution for a site like this, one due to content and two due to amount of visitors. Serious advertisers want website with tens of thousands of hits per day and need a more general content to be interested. |

Well you could be right, I certainly dont know a lot about it, but I would have thought that if I was to do it, I would like a bit of profit, its not only what you have to pay out for, you also have to add the time spent in doing it,..time will always be money
[ again must repeat that this is just forum speak,.. nothing else]

Also would like to add, that I dont believe people would run away,.. yes you may lose some, but it would always depend on the site and how good it is,.. this site was always a good one, and still is, this would count for a lot, and I dont think the site would suffer much,..again going by what was said on the two forums, the lastest a few months ago

People say they will pay, until you ask them, websites come and go,I can name one major website (But I won't for fear of been sued)Not a swingers site, a general use site that had millions of users, when it was free, then some company bought it out and charged £7 per quarter (Not much I would say) and people just stopped using it because something else by then had come along.
The days of small websites like this making money are gone, there's just too much choice out there. In fact all the major players on the internet such as Facebook, myspace and lots of others all use the advertising business model because people just don't like to pay to use websites. And like I said in my last post your just not going to attract many advertisers to a site like this.
Perhaps a solution could be to ask members to make a small voluntary donation to pay for the site and running cost! Or get a few people together to run the site to spread the costs.

The subject of donations also popped up in the forums I mentioned, and although the cost was first thought to be aimed at webcam users, there were people [including us] who never use the chat rooms who were also willing to pay,...and donating was an option,... and possibly would be the best in our view, at least at first
You mentioned people leaving once a charge was asked for,..presuming they left for what they thought was a better site,... this was what I was implying before when I said it would depend on how good the site was,...if we were deemed to be one of the better sites, then I am not so sure that many would leave.
Also remember that although this is not the biggest site on the net, it is not that small
.......................................
For those who havent read all this thread,....I want to again say that, this is just forum talk,..there are no plans

So if, as S&A say, there are no plans, what would be the implications of losing your original member status ? Sounds similar to SH, who allowed original members to remain free but new members after a certain date have to pay.
Incidently,it wouldn't worry us in the least if we had to pay. |

Better site?
Better than what? All sites have good and bad points, that's why we are a member of all sites, you cannot go wrong that way, we even join paysites, as these will take free members, but with reduced facilities , as we are not looking for those added extras you get for paying, all we want is to get in touch with possible meets.
There is another option to make money for the site and is relevant to both the content and visitors, and that is either set up your own adult shop on the site sell the usual sex toys, lingerie etc...or if you don't like the idea of the time and money outlay for this sign up as an affiliate to a UK based adult shop, you can get about 10% of the money. It's better to use one that not just sending your members to their site but one where you can make it appear that you are actually slling the goods.
On whether you are a small site, again that is a matter of opinion, relative to other swinging sites you may not be the smallest but relative to general websites you are very very small. The ability to tell if a swinging website is small is very difficult because of inflated membership figures, boasted by ALL of the swinging website in an attempt to gain more members. Like I said in another post if you search THIS site after the first couple of pages the results are not valid as these members have not logged in for over 1 month. We certainly don't think being the biggest swinging website makes it the best, in swinging websites quality is king. I just want the members to be active within the site and not waste my time by dreaming!!!

I don't really care either way.....
If I have to pay to use this, then I will.
SH is run by the French and is a dictatorship (mind you.... banned for life 3 times in my case so I'm slightly biased - lol)
Adultfriendfinder is just a shag fest with off shots such as Indianfriendfinder and the like. I know people on AFF and it has an immoral view point. No one really seems to care. I tried it once and after desperately trying to change a single profile to a couple and not being able to, and no reply for admin and their phone number being out of order, I gave up.
DirtyDavid's is a mecca for whoring as is Adultworks.
To me, a good site is one that works for you personally.
I love fab, I also use one other site which I pay for but Fab is my favourite. I don't care if it's small compared to the rest. with due care and diligence it will get bigger but in MY opinion, thats when the real problems start!
As long as FAB keep the fee's to a minimum, would we really lose anyone from the site that we wouldn't want to lose anyway? |

Yes true keep the payments to a minimum then people will stay. If what they say is true and they have a reasonable amount of active members then they should be able to make a buck from it.
Problem comes when it's a pay site is people expectations grow they want more, especially in been able to contact the site owners, and also the content etc... and if the site is run on a part time basis this is very difficult to do. Lets say that your right and people who are members do pay up, well the active one's,the site will still become stagnant as new people will choose the FREE site over a paysite.
Like you say SH has lost a lot of it's membership when it became pay and even more when someone else took over the running, this is also true of Dirtydavids (The Adult Hub) so what makes you think this site will be any different? Swingers are a fickle bunch with no allegiance to any site, well at least history tells us that. It rue of the internet in general, things come and go very quickly, facebook is the in thing but give it a couple of years, and while it won't be dead, people will migrate to the next in thing, to a certain degree this has happened with Friendsreunited, everyone was on it, now they use facebook.
I also thinK fabswingers is a good site, have a few issues with it, but it does for now, would I pay for it. NO

I was one of the advertisers on here running a honest to goodness business.
I must say I was disappointed when the ads went, but I do agree with the principle of why Fab did it.
In fact I did the same myself as the content was not appropriate, also they are not vetted through the webmasters.
I am supprised that anyone complained about the £500 male escorts I mean come on!! an element of common sense is requred surely on that one.
Please do not ask what my business was on here as that is seen as promoting and ive got alot of friends on here thankyou! |
