"tell me about it, i got stuck behind four of them yesterday for 4 1/2 hours"
Then they weren't playing golf. They'd probably seen something on Loose Women about how a round of golf is a great way to tone up those tums and have a good natter while they did it. Hitting an actual golf ball is complete anathema to such persons. |

"What was it Mark Twain said "Golf is a good walk spoiled"
XXXX"
Nope I think it was someone, in fact a whole group of spherically challenged folk who confessed to not being able to hit a cows arse with banjo.
The problem with with any form of sport is those who can do, and those who cant make excuses |

More an excuse to skive out of the office than a sport.Excitement wise,as far as the spectator is concerned,it ranks alongside poker and chess. Its a bit like masturbation, only fun for those doing it.......On the plus side it does leave a few unspoiled green areas for wildlife etc.

I've been playing for 3 months and it's a bloody awful game. Fortunately the people i play with don't take it too seriously.
Never trust a game where you can't tackle people or you have to get your balls in the hole and leave your shaft out. |

My only problem with golf is when feckin dog owners think its a great piece of land to walk their fookin dobermans on. Had one charge at me once and I had my 7 iron ready to beat it's feckin brains out when its owner whistled and it stopped dead in its tracks. He came up laughing and joking something about him being quite tame really. I nearly beat him to death with my golf club instead. Wanker. |

Don't forget it's definitely not a sport, after all how can a 5 mile walk, up hill and down dale in all weathers, carrying or pulling a bag of clubs be classed as exercise.
It's definitely not a popular past time as
http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview/id/415151.html
estimates only a mere 61 million folk world wide actually play the game.
As I said for those who have been blessed with the hand eye co ordination that allows them to turn their hands to most ball sports golf will always be a thoroughly enjoyable pastime.
Sadly there will always be those amongst us who lack even the basic motor skills required to place a ball onto a tee, let alone actually hit said ball with a golf club, and for them envy leads to inevitable denigration |

Or another way of looking at it is,if 61,000,000 people world wide play it,can it be that difficult? Afterall, you don't get that many people doing Boxing or Rugby, cagefighting etc.
I'm just trying to get my head around 61,000,000 people walking round dressed like Huggy Bear or Rupert, lol.
However,I can agree with you exercise wise, yeah I'll go along with that,(when they're not riding in little noddy cars or having some flunky carrying their kit).As you also say though, it's more of a passtime, like stamp-collecting etc.;-)
