Think there many types of “smart” so it’s hard to explain what I see it as.
Suppose for me it’s a mixture of so many things - someone who has a lot of social savvy and can put people at their ease. This can be done on so many different levels – inclusive inconsequential conversation, someone who can impart knowledge in an easy and non condescending way, someone who’s compassionate, someone who can see beyond the obvious and put pieces together.
So on the basis of that I suppose I try and not label people as smart or otherwise. As for the Forums I’m more interested in those who make me laugh and show a level of tolerance for the other users - smart doesn’t enter into it. |

Some people are intellectual and smart in the traditional way but are not articulate. Others struggle with words and often spelling but it doesn’t mean they lack the ability to communicate. Forums are more about the ability to interact with others rather than pass an exam. Can someone hide it? Well we all perceiver a person in a different way so one person’s smart is another’s idiot. But does it really matter if you enjoy bouncing of them on here. |

I've seen smart people and I've seen intelligent people. I've seen people who struggle with words and I've seen people where words flow like a fountain from the Well of Knowledge. What I've also seen are those who find common ground regardless of their background and become firm friends.
Those that accept without judgement are the ones who realise that it takes a good old mix to make this world go round, and that if we lioved in a world where everyone was the same - we wouldn't be on a site like this. We'd have no need to. |

"Correct spelling and good grammar, can be a good benchmark in ascertaining someones level of intelligence,or how smart they are."
Not wanting to pick a fight but I completely disagree with you on spelling.
I will honestly say my spelling is poor and know many others I would regard as smart that are similar.
Diction, grammar, and sentence construction, can show education, but is that smart?
I don't think it is the same.

"When I said I am not clever, I meant I am not very deep, so you won't find me talking quantum physics or the theory of relativity with anyone! "
According to Mensa, I am near genius level.
According to friends else, I'm a complete numpty with no common sense.
According to my kids, I'm just plain weird.
According to Jason, I'm a technological neightmare.
I'm extremely clever and educated.
Does that make me smar?
Nope! |

"I am smart but not clever.
I have mastered the art of studying enough just to obtain the neccessary pass marks, and spend the spare times having fun! "
Anything above the pass mark is wasted effort |

At school, I always found English very easy, in literature, spelling and comprehension. I never had a problem with it and acheived very high grades in all disciplines. Maths, however, was a completely different story (pun intended) - I can do the basics well enough and have no problem with mental arithmatic, but logarithms/algebra/tangents, sine/cosine always escaped me. The teacher might as well have been talking in Urdu for all the good it did. Even today, when helping my 12y/o with her maths homework, I still struggle with it but they have developed different methods for calculating stuff thesedays. |
