Other alternatives are Media Monkey or Winamp or Music Bee.
The above play all music files including FLAC files ( Windows media player does not support FLAC files by default )

If your using XMBC just go to settings and set the defualt folder for where your music is stored and it will add the files to the library |

Are you sure you actually bought a new PC/ Laptop with Windows 8 on it as it seems you are missing a lot of things from it? Or do you just hate it that much that you're not taking the time to find things on it?
Windows Media Player is loaded by default in Windows 8 it's Windows Media Centre that isn't.
Use the search function to find what you can't easily see. If you want your start button back where all the installed programs will show as they did in Windows 7, etc then download an add on like "Classic Shell" (or similar) and hey presto you'll have a much faster operating system with Windows 8 that can act like Windows XP, Vista or 7! |

Taking time, I've been pissing around with this since 11am yesterday. I've used computers for 15 years and everything I ever learnt seem to be rendered pointless and useless with this, I'll try that I know what you mean. but give it a year and all I've pulled my hair out figuring out will be changed again, it's a piss take!! |

google "ninite" and use their installer for k-lite codecs, job done
for those of you wanting older and better versions of anything, go to oldversion dot com, so there for example you can get any version of winamp from 0.20 to 5.623 |
