I lent my sister all my camping stuff last year and when she finished she put them in mums shed . Just got them out and there 2 chairs missing and a blow up bed. Not even checked the tent yet !!!

Well cheesed off need them in 4 weeks now have to go buy new ..wouldnt mind but she bust my cmping stove and i replaced that when she gave it me back .

Also while im moaning I borrowed sister in law expensive cake stand and shes lost it. She said she would replace it but still waiting from 6 mths ago

Lesson learnt...

Only borrow from a pessimist - they expect never to see it again

Difficult when it's family, difficult to say no, or to hassle about making good loss or damage.

no it's not, look them straight in the eye, stand up straight, puff your chest out and say 'no'.

I agree, difficult within family and close friends - I guess I would weigh up what is more important - getting things back or risking harm to the friendship. (and of course that depends on the value of the lent/ borrowed article)

My brother is the worst, lent him my laptop - he broke it, my camera - he left it on the plane, my air bed - he lent it to a friend never to be seen again....... So frustrating!

Luckily he lives further away from me now so relies on other people instead for things!

years ago my sister borrowed a dress of mine and I hadn't even worn it........ when I asked for it back she said oh I like it too much to give it back....... I then forgot about it for a while and she said few months later that she had returned it, the cheek of it...... never saw it again!!!!!!!!!

When I lend something I always say 'you break it, you replace it. Still want it ?' And yes, I follow up on it

I never let anybody ,family or friends , know what I've got. When we have visitors I hide all my nice stuff. If someone should ask do you have a Something I could borrow I always say I haven't got one. I learned the hard way a long time ago that people will not treat borrowed items the same way as they treat their own.

She's your sister dude.... we sometimes have to bite our tongue, as annoying as it can be.

Possessions aren't worth falling out over. Families can have their funny little ways but nothing is more important than family and friends, when we lose them they can't be replaced unlike camping equipment.

I'm not a great one for material possessions, but do like my books. Lent a friend around 10 not quite irreplaceable but pretty hard to find cycling books and can't get them back. Only time I've ever been stung though.
