What is the rudest country you have ever been to

Belarus (got arrested for not having a non-entry visa, even though you get it when you land (they had closed the visa desk, so erm…). They have a special list in hotels with rates depending on nationality (imagine that here!). And every policeman wants $10 because they are “hungry” (not sure how that’s my problem, but hell if you want to walk to the shops without getting arrested you have to feed them apparently).
That said, the everyday folk were lovely. Just the official folk, not so much |

"If you do not try to speak French, they can ignore you, try and the will smile and speak English.
It's like swinging, make am effort and be polite. "
A toss up between the South of England and France. |

"I'm going to hazard a guess and say the people mentioning France, more specifically mean Paris.
I found Paris more dirty than people being rude"
Yeah I was surprised at how scruffy it was! This was a long time ago so it may have changed.. |

No, actually I found in Paris that people were much like they are in London, if you act like a tourist they will be rude to you because you are usually in their way or wasting their time.
I found that outside of the main towns in Brittany and Paris; rural France, small towns, they can be so rude!
I was with a French Belgian woman, we were travelling to a small festival in western France.
She spoke fluent French as a first language as her mother only spoke French. She was flat-out ignored because of her accent, to the point that: she asked one of the security guards at the car park why she was being ignored, after he was the 4th person to ignore her on our drive and they said we don't speak to Belgians here, in English instead of French, after telling me they didn't speak English when I asked after he was ignoring her.
Rude for the sake of being rude. Not all places, or people, but definitely a lot of them and this type of rude for the sake of it behaviour is something I have seen in France a lot! |

I went to NYC as a teen with my friend and her little toddler brother. Everyone assumed she was a single teen mum when we were out and were incredibly rude.
Also North Wales - not other parts. Just that bit. |

France is generally good, but Paris... shop assistants and restaurant workers especially. I went in a pharmacy in Paris for some cough drops. Oh no, can't just take them to the till and pay. Have to wait for snooty assistant to finish gossiping with customer, slowly serve another... 20 minutes with two other people in the shop. |

The French. Absolutely no question.
For all those mentioning central or eastern European countries: from my experience they are not necessarily rude. They are more blunt and direct and it's a case of "know what you want" sort of thing instead of stood at the front of a queue umming about what coffee to order etc. It's more of a "you've had the time in the queue to decide" type approach. I like it.
Balkan countries can be a bit stand offish until they get to know you. |

Yeah, there language is just direct. It’s very similar in West Africa. If you use all the little words like here, please , excuse me, could I have, thank you, they haven’t clue what you’re going on about.
I like it , efficient - in a restaurant just say bring me an ashtray & give me the sausages and large beer |

Ok, not a country but rudest place I have ever been, having been to pretty much all major cities in the world, is by far London.
Parisians can be stand-off-ish if you arrogantly assume they speak English (which most do of course) and appreciate some effort, certainly in any opening conversation. |

"England, closely followed by Jordan "
I lived in Jorda, and to be fair it depends where you went. At places like Adaba, Karak, Petra and the tourist areas it's a bit meh!
Off the beaten track, a bunch of nicer people you couldn't meet. In my experience they were absolutely generous, polite and the most hospitable hosts who were genuinely interested in you and your comfort and happiness. This was my experience with all cultures Palestinian, Bedouin, or Circassian.
I am truly sorry that you had a bad experience in al-Urdun 🇯🇴

I don't think I've ever noticed any country to be worse and I've been to 25/30
Not yet done Slovakia or Austria, which came up. I've been invited into a Parisians home for breakfast, stayed with French families. A woman invited me to stay at her home in Stockholm, should I have missed a ferry. I've generally found people to be friendly and very generously hospitable.
People are different, which is one of the pleasures of travel. |

"Not a country but New York was a different level
London has its moments
Cant say i see a whole country as rude "
I think Londoners and New Yorkers tend to be more direct rather than rude. I've been to New York and found the people great
They're both big busy cities so people like to get things done a bit quicker. |

Lots saying France and inside the Paris Périphérique, I think this is true. They are the rudest city (and I have been to many)
Poland is very abrasive and can appear rude but without doubt it is the Arabian countries who are the rudest. |

It’s weird really.
I kinda get why people say France, but I’ve visited many times and I’ve received great help and kindness. An example would be asking a policeman for directions when hopelessly lost and him driving a few miles with me tailing behind to get there.
I’m great friends with a large Parisian family and they are the nicest people going.
I also know loads of Poles. They might seem rude, but they are really not. Their directness is actually very refreshing once you’re used to it. They find the way we skirt around things in conversation and bury our true intentions under layers of meanings utterly baffling.
I find London more rude and up itself than Paris, but it’s a city and I love it . |

As am I. I travelled widely in other nearby countries and certaint didn’t experience the same behaviour elsewhere. It was such a shame. |

"The question is flawed.
Countries aren't rude; people are.
So maybe.. in which countries have you encountered the rudest people?
"
^This^
I had my worst experiences as a vegetarian travelling in France, where most of the waiters I encountered on my travels thought I was mentally unwell for not eating meat. But this doesn't mean that all French people think or act the same way. |
