Last weekend I was asked why I wasn't "harder" because of where I grew up (😂 not heard the term used by an adult before)

Have you had any preconceptions made about you because of where you are from? did you live up to those preconceptions?

I can relate. People laugh when they hear me speak then find out where I grew I up (Catford).

Also anyone who has to know my history (official types) they're always surprised I'm fairy well put together.

There are plenty of preconceptions made about 'southerners'.

I lived in a very large detached house from the age of around 10. People assumed that our family was rich and posh.

I went to an all girls grammar school. It was assumed I was posh, rich and a snob.

🤷‍♀️

It’s about the individual not necessarily where they grew up as influences go

I’m born and raised in North London. But upon finding out my family is from Jamaica someone once said to me ‘but you’re vegetarian? So you don’t even eat jerk Chicken’

Accent tends to get a bit of stick.

Then education and job means people think I didn't grow up where I did either.

As soon as I say where I’m from I’m usually asked how many fingers I have.

It pisses me off, I have 14 like everyone else from here

Southerners are soft shandy drinkers.....not been proved wrong yet.

Yorkshire born and bred, but living down South.

It's a joke

The ironic thing is the area I grew up in isn’t rough at all. It was actually quite nice (as far as Birmingham areas go)

It might be now, perhaps gentrified somewhat I don't know I never go there. 35 odd years ago it wasn't alright by most people's standards (I lived right on the outskirts but still Catford postcode!)
