DIY (of the non sexual variety)

Are you any good at it? What’s your limitations?

Put a shelf up or do some wiring or plumbing or do nothing and get someone else to do it?

Somewhere In The Ether…

I’m fairly mediocre at it…

I can do a bit of everything but not to professional specifications.

Having said the above, I do feel really good when completing a task and always feel mightily manly with a power tool in my hands 👍🏻

I’m handy with a drill. Not bad at painting. I don’t touch anything major like electric, water or gas related stuff. That’s what professionals are for!

I changed a toilet flush mechanism once.

The handle broke and the only replacements in b&q was push button ones.

Somehow me and YouTube managed and it worked better than most of the pubic toilets.

Fairly decent at DIY. Own a fair few power tools. Even when I was married, I did the DIY.

I'd try anything, except electrics or plumbing.

I’m pretty much good at most DIY. It’s rare that I get somebody to do a job for me. Usually service my own car and motorbike too.

I'm actually quite shit at doing the simple things around the house, putting up a mirror/pictures straight, painting etc. But I've managed to build a 10ft x 6ft garden bar without any power tools, and a 6 x 4 shed on my allotment.

I think I'm ok at most things. I've fitted kitchens & bathrooms, done loads of painting, tiling, etc. I'll do simple electrics, changing light fittings, etc, but anything more complicated I'd get the professionals in. I think the secret to good diy is knowing your limitations and know when to ask for help.

"As a construction trade what I can’t legally do have friends that can "

Depending on point of view it is either useful or dangerous that I can legally DIY certain things that the appropriate professional legally cannot. Let's call it an interesting loophole! It's up there with E-type Jags not requiring an mot. Safe for one person and not for the next

I actively avoid it if I can and generally pay someone else to do it. My limit is painting the fence and shed.

I suppose that you can’t be good at everything.

"Not my thing that's for men "

diy is not just for men as any lady can do it, if they so choose to do so.

I will offer any advice to anyone that wants it.

Yes I have been told to leave me to doing it and im fine with that.

I do most of the trades so its not diy to me.

from electrical to plastering to roofing so I tend to do alot of the trades

What a sexist and outdated opinion you have there.

As a woman in engineering with a trade under my belt, you should do better. Bet I don't have to think too hard about what your life goals are

You know on housey type programmes when the husband is out in all weathers for 18 months creating a family palace and then the wife pops up at the end and says she chose the kitchen, the settee, the cushions and the god awful wallpaper

Well, I'm the wife

Done quite a few things.

Putting a door up, building a shed, extending a table*, replacing (badly) wardrobe doors.

* I needed to turn a round table that fit 4 people on it, into a table that could fit 12. It was ugly, but it was straight, more important flat and level.
