Ow do good folks 👍🏻
Right - A serious post from me for a change.
I read a news story the other day in which a doctor was recommending that every household should invest in a blood pressure monitor - which I wholeheartedly agree to be a highly judicious decision.
Do you presently own one?
Do you regularly monitor your blood pressure?
Are you generally spot on, high or else low? (I won’t ask for specific readings as that’s overly personal information)

Yes I have one. I should use it more than I do because I'm on beta blockers.
My watch estimates my blood pressure and it's usually in the ideal range. It occasionally blips to high but only for one reading. |

We do have a ood pressure momitor but don’t use it as much as we should.
Through my recent hospital stay, i saw that my blood pressure has gone back to mormal levels now, after having been on the threshold-normal-to-high bit for a while. ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

Yes and no. Are you at risk? As someone with breathing difficulties I've be given peak flow meters and my Garmin watch GPS/HR monitor was used to prove I didn't have exercise induced asthma, but dysfunctional breath, which led to a proper first time in-hospital function test. No more ineffective inhalers!
The ability to monitor your own normal and build a bigger picture must be taken seriously and this is why diabetics monitor their own sugar levels and can have a rueal time update on what's going on in their own body. CPAP machines have watch and phone based apps to monitor nocturnal breathing and choking events.
So yes, it's a great idea, if it's a health concern.

Don't currently have one but got a free test done last week that flaged high blood pressure, that followed with a 24hr monitor going on and although it showed they my blood pressure is generally OK it has flagged that I have arrhythmia |

Being a nurse, I have just about every medical instrument, blood pressure machine, oximeter etc...
My blood pressure is usually quite low though last week shot up to 144/100...safe to say, I ended up being a in patient for 5 days ![](/icons/s/wink.gif) |

No we don't have one. We both have low blood pressure. Though I did get mine checked after my dad's high blood pressure led to a heart attack a couple of years back (he's in good shape now). If it's a worry in the future I might consider it, but we're fine for now |

My family seems predisposed to having high blood pressure (although that could be the copious amounts of Indian food!) so we do have one and although I don't monitor it too regularly, the times that I have, it's been pretty normal ![](/icons/rainbow.png) |

I bought one last year and use it every couple of months.
I bought a new smart watch recently which claimed to be able to check my BP but it was giving ridiculously high readings so I use both it and the BP monitor and there was a vast difference.
I wouldn't trust the watch. |

Nor would I. The reading at the surgery is significantly different |

I’m pleased to hear that so many of you have them 👍🏻
I think they are a brilliant tool, even if one checks only every once in a while; after all, it’s better to be safe than sorry as the colloquialism goes 😃
Is it just me though, who absolutely hates the way they tighten?
Gawd! - It feels like it’s never going to let up and will crush my arm to a pulp 😵💫😵💫

No, I don’t have one. They do my blood pressure when I go in for my yearly checkup, they also weigh me, which is the only time I get weighed.
They always tell me what the blood pressure numbers are, but I don’t have a clue what they mean, as long as they know what’s what they will let me know if there is a problem I’m sure. |

Yeah there isn't a watch that can accurately measure bp yet. I looked into it. |

I recently bought an "Omron™ M4 Intelli IT" blood pressure monitor and it's brilliant.
I've only recently been diagnosed with slightly 'elevated' high blood pressure and prescribed Ramipril™, so the Omron is an extremely useful device, with Bluetooth and an app to record/sync all my readings with my phone and Google/Fitbit scores. |

That's the same I have. No particular reason but just in case ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

I don’t own one. I have low blood pressure which my Dr put down to having cycled in my youth and me working with power tools above my head a lot of my working life.
On another related note, we now know that the salt/BP connection is a recessive gene so it only applies to a third of us. Most of us should not fear a salty diet at all. |
