What times do you put on the heating?

One of the reasons I ask this is because I heard that few dont have it on at night time.
In my opinion the night time is when you should have it on the most because you are inactive and just sleeping, whilst during the day you dont need it on for such a long time.
I have mine on one or 2 times for a short time during the day, but most of the time if I need it on is when I sleep.
It would be interesting to see what times you put on the heating for and do you agree that it is better to have it more on at night when you sleep too? |

I put it on when I get home from work and turn it off a few hours before I go to bed
I don’t put it on when I get up in morning as it makes going out to work in the cold feel ten times worse haha |

Recently had it in all the time quite often. The norm is 5 30 - 8.30 and 6.00 to 10.30 in eve. As currently often at home during day though it is on mostvof the time as though I don't like it too hot, I am not fond if being cold either. In other words, as and when needed |

"Between 6-8 in the morning & 5-7 in the evening. I’m usually in bed by 9.30, just because I can!" Hi emma, yes, those times are good, that is a good time to go to bed too. I am night owl and I like to go to bed late |

7am to 9am and then 6pm to 10.30pn, however when working from home or weekends it's on constantly from the moment we get up until going to bed
There's a reason why our bills are so high, but none of us like the house being cold! |

I’m out and about at odd hours so I have a clever little gadget that senses when I’m 2 miles from home and when I’m active in the house and asks if I want to turn the heating on.
We live in an age of wonders!
Otherwise off when I’m asleep and very random. |

I only have the heating on over night when it's really cold, and it's set at 16c.
I work from home, so the heating is on in the mornings between 7-9 and then back on at 4.30 - 9. Occasionally i put it back on during the day. Nothing worst than being cold while sat at a desk for hours.

06 30 so the house is warm for the boys before they leave for work.
Goes off at 08.30, well lowers to 18 then back on at 16.30 till 22.30.
Nothing worse than a cold house, especially if like us, you prefer to wear minimal clothing whilst at home. |

I have it on all day now at 18 then down to 14 at night. It's an old house so difficult to keep warm so by doing this the house is always warm.
Sounds crazy but had a gas engineer and builder both recommend this. Costs have only increased slightly and house is always warm |

I was under the impression that short boosts were pretty energy intensive as you have to power up the whole system and then pretty much turn it straight off again. Is that not a thing? |

6.15 until 7am. Gives me time to get up at 6.30 then shower. On around 6pm then off 845pm. Depends on how cold it is obviously if on all that time, I bed early around then if nothing else doing for rest of footie/film/book. |

Absolutely do not have it on through the night. Im warm enough in my cosy bed, I would be far too warm otherwise. But it's on a balmy 17 from 8.00 till 9.00 pm all day. I did a comparison, having it on a couple of hours morning then a couple of hours evening, and it cost me slightly more per month than leaving it on low all day. |

Getting to grips with a new boiler which was fitted two weeks ago. Currently have it on from 6.30 until 10 in the morning, and for about five hours in the evening.
The previous boiler was fitted in December 1988 (still had paperwork from previous owner), so it had done its job. I bet this one won't last 36 years ! |

Don't usually have the heating on unless I have guests. I do cold water therapy every morning ( ice baths ) and any tempt above 14c is warm.
I read some where that bedrooms need to be cooler, ideal is 18c

I’ll have mine on for an hour and a half in the morning, then set it to come on about 40 minutes before I’m due home.
I never have the heating on at night, it makes me uncomfortable but I do sleep with 2 quilts over me. |

Just keep thermostat at 17 degrees so trips in and out through the day so nice constant temp, heating doesn’t kick in at all if there’s a bit of sun out and tends to just come on in the late evening. |

Yep we control our heating by thermostat rather than timer.
It's set to constant and we adjust the temperature according to the weather. |

My heating is never on during the night as I have a winter duvet on and don't like the bedroom over warm..
It would feel extravagant and wasteful, for me to have the heat on overnight.
Daytime, I have no set pattern, heating goes on when I am cold.. |

The most economical way of using your heating through the winter months, is to have it set on constant at a temp of around 15-18 degrees, this way your house will never get too cold.
It's a myth that you should have your heating on full blast for a couple of hours in the morning and in the evening, as during the time your heating is off, the house just loses all that heat and then when your heating comes on, it takes longer to get the house up to temperature hence it cost alot more.
Having it on constant, it will kick in as and when the temp drops but won't stay on for very long as it's just topping up, hence its a lot more economical.

I found mine is cheaper & house warner to just have it on all the time but set low. I set it to about 12 or 13 degrees most of the time and if I’m cold in the evenings, I push it up to 14 but back around 12 before bed.
Definitely would not want it heating to more than 12° overnight.
I also balanced the system so 75% of the heat is downstairs and rises |

I agree with this and I have the readings that proves it’s more economical to have it on all the time than hitting water from cold twice a day. But 15 to 18° is way too hot for me. |

Unless your house (like mine) is over 100 years old, and so thermally inefficient that it would leave the heating running constantly just to try and maintain that 18 degrees.

Ive tried turning my heating off when not in but the temp would drop to 10 degrees or less inside when really cold outside and take hours to get to a comfortable temp and then be on to maintain it. Now i leave it on a minimum of 15 and turn it up when i want. That way its only running for a couple of hours throughout the 24 hours. More cost effective, and more comfortable than a freezing cold house to come into. |

15 mins every hr on the hr when im up
if i go out its set to fire a couple of times to stop that temp dropping way too much.
night time its set on timer but does have a frost stat on the pipes to stop them freezing.
as the boiler has a frost stat just for the boiler, but your pipes dont and thats how they freeze.
burst pipes damage boilers as they cant fire up so the boilers frost stat is then useless. |

I don't do mine by times, it's controlled on the thermostat. 15/16 in the afternoons and evenings, 12 the rest of the time. Kicks in and out as needed, if it gets too warm I just turn the stat down a bit. We can't sleep with the heating blasting and I sleep with the window open. Most of our radiators are only on 3. |
