Wouldnt say worst but my first car was a h reg polo, 10year ago! I paid £500 for it and i had it 5 years with no major work to it. Sold it for £100 when it started to let in water, to the point where there was puddles in the back haha.!! |

I had a green Citroen estate car. I cannot remember the model number but it was a bit smaller than a Mondeo Estate 1900cc Diesel.
It was the crappiest, shittiest, most unlucky car I've ever owned. I damaged the bodywork shortly after I got it, then somebody smacked into the side of me at a roundabout then the wind caught the drivers door and smashed it into the lamppost outside my house, damaging the door.
When I got it everybody laughed because it was a Citroen then they said it's green - the unluckiest colour in the world for a car and I laughed at them, but they turned out to be right  |

Renualt Espace was the best fun car, all the seats out of the back but one loads of room for anything in the back.

Had an Alfa gtv v6 years ago, what a sack of shit they are!! Had to fix it before every journey even to the local shop and if you sat watching it for longer than 10 mins you would observe more rust appearing shame as it was a pretty car. |

Range Rover, was like sailing a boat there was that much side to side movement, went around corners like bambi on ice and was back into the garage 5 times in the space of a year before I gave up on it. Shockingly bad. |

I had a new 156 estate 2.4JTD a few years back ... diesel but very NICE
Going further back many rust buckets; escort, cavalier, carlton. The carlton had a sun roof that leaked but the water stayed in the roof and then showered me in the car on braking |

a peugeot 309 diesel, great car just went through alternators faster than fuel, was a problem with the batch that mine was from apparently. and a 405 petrol, engine would just throw a complete wobbly every few months and sort itself out, had the engine almost rebuilt completely just looking for the fault. but other than that only twice ive ever vetured from citroen or peugeot and one was a mazda 323f b2, and the other is a 5yo bimmer 118d that i own atm and gives me more trouble than the 11yo picasso i also own thats abused completely but never gives a bit of trouble |

A Renault 19 diesel, paid less the £200 for it, and it lasted less than a month before it died. If I knew then what I know now, I might have fixed it, but then if that was the case, I would never have bought it! |

I've had two that stick in my memory, and fortunately they were company cars so I didn't have to keep shelling out on them.
First was a 1985 Ford Orion 1.6i Ghia... which 'devoured' three gearboxes in just over 18 months from new....
Second was a 1995 Renault Laguna Mk1 which all-but fell apart over 15 months - including having the driving seat collapse while I was driving the damned thing! |

I had a Laguna worst car ever electrics and gear box a total nightmare, not learning my lesson but needing a cheap motor after returning the Laguna I had a Peugeot 605 ok £500 which was just a little more than my monthly payments on the Laguna but what a comical car, windows had a mind of they own, central locking didn't work, to turn the immobiliser off you just pushed a button on the dash, and to start it I had to connect a random wire the aa fitted to the battery and hey presto i was away, needless to say when I put it in for a mot I got 3 full sheets back of failures lol |

the reason why the xsara had eletrical problems is that a lot of its electrics were borrowed from the renault laguna, just look what most people say about them. i had a xsara 2.0 VTS that had been stupidly tuned ( could kill a scooby in a straight line,but no had chance on the bends, also hammered a focus RS on the local bypass) so 95% of the electrics had been changed anyway, the only electrical problem problem it ever had was the sensors for the airbags that told the car if someone was sitting in the seat or not, and you guessed it they were the original renault ones |

My first car, a Mk2 Cortina 1600 Super.
I can tell you, there was nothing very "Super" about it. Burnt more oil than petrol and on a careful run was only good for 25 MPG |

I beg to differ. The diesels are the ones to avoid unless you're doing high mileage as the EGR valves get blocked, MAF's and MAP's fail and let's not forget the DPF and injector seals... |

We had a MGZR loved it for the 10 years we had it, only got rid of it in Dec, only had 53 thou genuine miles on it, and it's now owned by a young lady and last time we seen her she had dint in her door, why or why did we not keep it it broke our hearts to see the state it was in after only a cpl of months |

Two cars stick in my memory.
Renault Clio; how that range of cars ever sold in their numbers I don't know! Mine ate money every day, sitting in my local garage as mechanics tried to get to grips with countless faults.
Second was a Fiat Punto. To be fair, when it ran, it was excellent, but it was off the road more often it was on it! |

Metro was the worst car I've ever owned.....or was that the citroen c5?. Both .horrible things to drive. Most expensive due to many trips to garage freelander ...yes the 1.8 petrol..surprisingly we never had a head gasket problem with it! All pretty horrible. |

A Renault Megane 2,0 16V. It was nothing but trouble from the monent we bought it, for the first 2 months it spent more time in the garage than with us. Only goid thing about it was that it could shift when it actually ran. |

Stupidly got rid of my lovely old Peugeot to buy my mother's 3yr old yaris.
Absolutely detested driving that sack of shit car! The only thing going for it, was it was reliable.

I hired a Hyundai Getz in Australia to go up the coast. Most uncomfortable drive ever. It was automatic and so sluggish on gear changes and the foot pedals were set at such bad angle and height my ankles swelled up. |

one of the only cars ive seen that ive really fallen in love with, beautiful looking car even the ones with the huge wing on the back, dont know somehow goes perfectly. alfa know how to make a beautiful car but somehow cant put them together properly. my mate boght a GTV for a song only had 20k on the clock, but boke down 3 times in the first 2 months he had it, final one was the dreaded camshaft bearing failure that most of them die with. he gave it for nothing to another mate of mine whos a bit of an engineering genius and he fitted bearings from a ford and sorted out every little problem they have and the car is still on the road and has never broken down since. |

The biggest money pit we have had the displeasure of financially supporting was a BMW 840ci, beautiful looking car and fantastic to drive but boy did it drain the bank account

mg metro in black bonnet flew up not long after getting it had 7 engines in it in just over a year got bank loan for it for 2 grand and sold it to a breakers yard after the 7th engine blew up loved the car was like a go kart but never again had another rover since a 420 gsi lovely car but sold that to get a subaru kept that 4 yrs now got a good old audi a4 1.9tdi superb car very reliable buy german all the way  |

That's usually down to someone using the wrong grade of oil thinking they're doing the car a favour by using 0w-40 fully synthetic with the impression its somehow better than 10w-60, it isn't. What it is, is the wrong oil! It's too thin and gets burnt and leaves deposits in the head that blocks oil-ways and breathers which eventually cause major failures. This is why its important to buy an Alfa with a fully service history, either an Alfa one or from a specialist. |

That BMW would have had the M62 engine fitted to it and is up there as one of the best engines they have produced. that said if the coolant was never changed (very important) when it should have been then it will bite you in the arse. The ammount of smaller garage establishments that do not carry out coolant changes within the schedule alarms me. suppose thats why they charge next to nothing as opposed to main dealer or specialists  |

BMW 330 nice motor and good on paper... rot box, suspension bushes exhaust hanger issues..summat that shouldn't happen in a short life....don't get me started on Audi A3 or BMW Mini... at least the last 2 were not mine.... I only now buy Japanese domestic market cars...some never sold in the UK |

And when they do change the coolant they use the wrong stuff and that causes all kinds of issues too. Happens all the time with Alfa's too.

We used to own a Skoda Estelle (Kermit) always overheating and bounced everywhere wouldnt like to have it now with the amount of speed bumps around.
The next worse had to be a MR2 only had for a little while no leg room to play in unless you took the roof off lol xx |

You do have to keep an eye on them though...one of the only cars ive seen that ive really fallen in love with, beautiful looking car even the ones with the huge wing on the back, dont know somehow goes perfectly. alfa know how to make a beautiful car but somehow cant put them together properly. my mate boght a GTV for a song only had 20k on the clock, but boke down 3 times in the first 2 months he had it, final one was the dreaded camshaft bearing failure that most of them die with. he gave it for nothing to another mate of mine whos a bit of an engineering genius and he fitted bearings from a ford and sorted out every little problem they have and the car is still on the road and has never broken down since.
That's usually down to someone using the wrong grade of oil thinking they're doing the car a favour by using 0w-40 fully synthetic with the impression its somehow better than 10w-60, it isn't. What it is, is the wrong oil! It's too thin and gets burnt and leaves deposits in the head that blocks oil-ways and breathers which eventually cause major failures. This is why its important to buy an Alfa with a fully service history, either an Alfa one or from a specialist."
the gtv that he bought, had a full alfa service, never serviced for mileage though. From what i can gather alfa didnt make enough tolerance in camshaft to take into account the expansion when the engine got hot, and that's why the bearings fail, some fail at low mileages and some don't. But they all go eventually |

I have a 156 JTS. If you look after them properly, they're fine. Mine hasn't broken down once. I've had a look around the GTV forums. No one mentions camshaft bearing failure as a common fault unless its been poorly maintained and the wrong oil used. But a common fault is the cam position sensor failing. It's common on most Alfa T-Spark, JTS & JTD engines and costs £15 to repair.
Could have been unlucky I guess and picked up a dog, GTV's are usually pretty good, especially the V6's. |

That is in my list , Mrs J had a a 1984 1300cc Yugo when we met, what a heap of crap.
It went fast only because it got progressively lighter as bits fell off .
That would be followed by a Renault Clio , a dull uninspiring car.
Then a Ford Sierra , even duller to drive enlivened only by the immobiliser playing up at the most inconvenient moments .
Had a Fiat Punto for a while , never again, it had electric steering that didn't , also went through three head gaskets in one year which was not helped by the lack of temperature gauge ,which seems common these days ,which just leaves an "engine fucked " light to notify you of yet more wallet wringing ahead. |
