An Extraordinary Question Regarding Carpet

Ey up good folks 👍🏻
Carpets….they are interesting are they not?
We walk on them.
Aye.
Anyway, do you have the same coloured carpet all through your house or else do you have different coloured carpets in different rooms?
If the latter, are you mindful not to have visually repellent carpet colour clashes whenever you open a door and wander from one room to another?
Yes, Carpets 👍🏻

"I have a mid slate grey in the living room, segueing to a nutmeg/oatmeal in the hall, in turn kissing a delicate peach gold for the boudoir Sensual.
Grey, brown, yeller."
This has made me recall Old Yeller…. 😭😭😭😭 Why did he have to die?! Disney….bastards! |

"The same colour in the bedrooms. Different colours in the other rooms "
I have cream throughout and grey in the bedrooms.
Neutral, non clashing colours.
Actually though, my house is a bit boring colour wise; White walls throughout.
I keep meaning to colour it up a bit (but am too bone idol) 🙁😜 |

Ah...add walls and now you're talking!
Burnt orange, with contrapuntal yellow (creamy kind) in a few bits and purple/indigo skirting for the living room, and a pale blue elsewhere with yellow on the woods.
Occasional burnt orange there too, just to drive the apathy away. |

"It's generally a cream coloured affair. Not particularly exciting, alas. The tiles though? They're one of the reasons I fell in love with the house when viewing."
My Spidey sense is telling me that your tiles are happy colours Meli? I’m seeing bright yellows and reds?
(Mind you my Spidey sense is on the blink so please forgive me if I’m waaaaaay off the mark) |

The carpet is the same colour upstairs and the living room. Hallway, dining room, kitchen and bathroom have different hard flooring.
Whichever room, the cat doesn’t wipe her feet, the callous fucker. |

Dids’t thou say indigo (my favourite colour!) skirting sir? 😍😍😍 |

We don’t have much but where we do it’s beige. They probably don’t call it beige, but it is. It’s an absolute bastard to get the fluff from the inside of your socks off, even with a vacuum cleaner with a rotary beating head. And who, may I ask, decided that the loopy stuff they have in the back of cars was a good idea. Absolutely impossible to get the sand and muck out of. |

My pooch thankfully tends to confine herself to my kitchen area (where the possibility of food is always present). Otherwise, with her dirty paws in this weather, my house might look somewhat akin to a trench in the Somme 😱 |

It is indeed Sensual (living room only).
Not as indigo as I'd hoped after the test pot, but deffo more indigo than purple/blue.
Works oddly well with the burnt orange too (big windows, otherwise it would all be way too much). |

Oak floors in the whole of the down stairs, beige carpet upstairs and bedrooms. Beige tiles in the bathrooms. How totally dull?!!! I’d love to have vibrant carpets, but our house is not massive and I think you need big floor spaces to get away with brighter colours. |

I prefer a hardwood flooring downstairs(or LVT in my case) and uniform carpets upstairs, minus the bathroom. The more than okay with a different carpet on the landing/stairs, though. I like rooms to flow where possible.
I'd rate this thread 7/10 if it's of any interest to you. |

You do, or big windows. My colour scheme in a sister's house would be oppressive - her rooms are larger, but her windows are tiny. The sense of light and space/actual light and space really determine your options a lot.
Also, on a scale of 1-10, how gay should I actually be in the real world? |

Sounds a reasonable comment as amount of windows and light affect how you can decorate a room |

As someone who has lilac/lavender walls in her lounge, this pleases me.
I have a pink fire mantle too.
Hurrah for colour! 👌 |

So that's "reasonably gay" then?

No, I think men can have a legitimate interest and opinion on interior design without it being a reason to belittle them |

Alas, I didn’t get to choose my carpets as my mother-in-law took care of that while I was in labour. Two kids and various pets later, what were once pure wool cream carpets have now taken on a shade best described as white-pants-accidentally-tossed-in-with-the-darks.

Grey on the stairs and one bedroom, blue in the other bedroom.
Laminate/tiles downstairs, but that was here and I'm in rented.
If I was going to do it, I'd have a darker laminate floor all through downstairs and probably the same colour for stairs and bedrooms. Although I do quite like the stripey carpet for stairs... Maybe just the runner up the middle |

I rent, so it's the same cheap, lowest- common denominator carpets throughout the house. They're also the same as the carpets in our last house.
But I have loose rugs over the top to protect the crap carpet, and to look and feel nice for us. |

The unexpected bonus when I moved here (which is Housing Association rental) was I can do anything I want with walls and floors apart from move them. Even that's possible (but awkward permissions).
So it's pretty much as flexible as the Fulham place I owned.
I've made the most of that bonus xxxx |
