People spending £800 on the latest phones. What on earth does a £800 phone do better than say a £300 phone?
Mines a fairly new Samsung A55 5G, paid just under £300 with staff discount and promotion and is pretty good.
What phone do you have? |

I paid roughly £400 for my Sony Xperia 10 V.
I used to buy Wileyfox phones, from a small company in the UK, who make cheaper smartphones. They're good, especially for the price.
Since I swapped to Sony, back with the Xperia 10 II, I've stuck with them. I'm not phone-obsessed or need the newest model every year, but I do really like the Xperia. |

Just got the Sony experia X vi during black Friday sale for £260.
Great phone and Camera. Does everything I need.
It replaced another Sony L4 which wAs 7 years old and still going strong. Only changed it as I dropped it and the screen went completely |

Unless your a photo enthusiast (get a DSLR?) or want to play high end games (on a phone?)
Not a lot really. Processor, memory half decent camera can all be acquired for about £300.
Besides I usually break them within a year so no point really. |

I wouldn’t even know or understand the difference
I was given my phone lad phone years ago when my son got a new one, it finally broke a few weeks ago so I bought the exact same phone again, my view is if it’s not broke don’t fix it |

I have an old iphone, I don’t much care for phones in general. But I’ve recently been persuaded on the quality of the camera on a newer phone - just for snaps. So I may upgrade next year. But other than the camera, I don’t have much use for all the latest tech. |

Phone manufacturers only commit to doing software and security updates for a few years after a new model is released, so buying a new phone every few years makes sense but doesn't have to be top of the range. |

I just upgraded from a pixel 4a to a pixel 8a. Got a fair few years out of the old one I really like the upgrade.
It's all about the camera for me but the jump to the latest version of Android is real nice and 8yrs of updates is pretty good too. |

I used to buy cheap phones because I kept breaking them after a couple months. Last cheap phone I had lasted for a couple years so treated myself last year and spent £700 on a google pixel whichever the newest one was. Still have it, good phone |

I paid about £500 for last year's Samsung. That being said I had my last phone for 6 years so don't change them often. I buy outright as I don't like committing to a contract. Or commiting to anything at all really |

You could say the same about cars, designer clothes, designer trainers, computers, all sorts. I’m not one for getting the latest iPhone just because there is one, but people can spend their money on what’s important to them. |

I've dropped to a SIM only deal and still have my old Samsung S21 (I think, might be S22). I would upgrade and think the Samsung A-Series are more than enough for my needs but they lack the wireless charging feature which has been a lifesaver since the USB C port failed on my current phone. So I can't justify paying an extra £300-£400 for that single feature.
I'll probably keep the one I have until it dies and then see what's available then. |

"I e got a Google Pixel and the phone itself is fine but basic. Only complaint is I'd swear the screen is made of butter the ease it scratches "
Mines over a year old and I didn't put a screen protector on it . But still seems like new. I hope |

Dunno how much this one was supposed to cost because it didn't have upfront cost and instead built into the contract. It's a Sony Xperia of some sort (can't remember which). I got it in 2020 and aside a small crack in the top right of the screen, it's completely A-OK. I don't understand why people change phones all the time and spend so much on them. But then again, I'm sure people don't understand why we spend our money as we do. I largely spend our money on mobility related equipment, unfortunately |
