"“No person has the power to have everything they want, but it is in their power not to want what they don’t have, and to cheerfully put to good use what they do have.” – Seneca"
I mostly subscribe to that with the very occasional lapse mostly around emotional stuff. |

The grass is usually not greener on the other side. It’s usually mostly mud and they’ve just spray painted it green to look good. It is just an illusion.
If you look after your own grass and tend it properly that is more satisfying. |

Wise words indeed |

I've no doubt that the same patch of grass can be kept incredibly green, but look how azure that ocean is!
And the red-iron glint from those rocks over there.
And the pleasure in the journey from one to the other.
Look at all those differences and transformations - aren't they enervating!
Particularly when that same patch of grass refuses to move, change, live, and sucks joy from you. From its own fears.
Which is not guaranteed to happen of course.
But often does, for reasons independent of how well one has tended it.

Much wisdom in that, especially if you reflect on each individual point |

I really like a couple of other replies in here. Nicky in particular. I think it is very easy to neglect an area of grass. To forget to water it. And then look at others' grass with envy.
But also, why the scarcity mindset? You can look after your grass and enjoy its fabulous lushness, but also enjoy the sandy beach, the dark forest, the heather covered hills. |

I don’t think so. I have friends who don’t have kids driving their flash cars and going on about 5 exotic holidays a year, yeah I sometimes feel a twinge of envy but I wouldn’t swap.
Also in Covid I remember seeing so many people saying they’re so lonely and they just wanted some company and they were finding it hard to cope. All I kept thinking was I’d do anything for that or just to get even half hour alone! So no, it’s not always greener |

Temptation is a strange thing and appreciating what you have when faced with something you want is difficult.
Been there in past, I think right now, I’m envious of others that have a partner to do stuff with, but patience and keep believing in myself |

Sometimes no matter how much you tend to grass and water it there is not way of making it green. So often we start with a dry barren yellowed patch thinking that with a bit of tlc it will become green but it never does. |

"Thinking that the grass might be greener has worked out in some situations for me. It’s made me realise that I can do better.
Sunk cost fallacy can be dangerous."
Yep, I've been guilty of buying into this and staying in unfulfilling situations for far longer than necessary. Work, relationships etc. |

I know myself and I know I've had everything I've ever wanted and more so I don't daydream about what if..I know what is capable so I just want that continuation.
The issue is different countries treat sex differently so what is normal for me is a kink or fantasy here. It's trying to find the person or persons willing to let go of their lower bar ladder and climb higher. |

"The grass is greener where you tend it most. A lot of people forget that.
I sometimes envy others situations but not often. We're lucky we've built up a good life over the years. "
Exactly... Too many neglect their own grass and forget they contributed to its demise. Not everything can be rebuilt that's burned. |

"The grass is very rarely greener. It will feel that it is initially, but as novelty wears off and reality kicks in, you realise it isn't." My ex wanted to come back, I wouldn't entertain her, it looks like she has settled with whom she ran off with now and appears to be happy
