Personally and based on mood, I can't pick one, so some games I know I've put serious hours (100+) of play into;
Age of empires 2
Halo 3 (out of all of them)
Stronghold crusader
Unreal tournament
Rome TW2
PUBG
Witcher series

In terms of recently released games, probably Helldivers 2 after the new updates.
As for games that hold nostalgia for me, uhhhh, I think I'd end up breaking the character limit because that choice is too hard to make. |

Disco Elysium was great. I bought it on the Christmas Steam sale a few years ago without reading anything about it - thoroughly enjoyed ever second. |

Someone has already said GTA: San Andreas which would probably be my pick, narrowly over Vice City.
It's impossible to pick just one though, and most of my favorites come from when I was a kid in the 90s
Some of my favorites from this era were : Sensible World of Soccer, Street Fighter 2/EX plus Alpha, Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, Micro Machines, Streets of Rage 2, Thunder Force 4, Street Racer, Mortal Kombat & I'm probably forgetting some.. |

Childhood game memories. Are different to my adult ones
As a kid probably games like midnight resistance 2 / turrican 2 / speedball 2 come to mind. Eye of the beholder 2
As adult I think the best fun gaming had online with my two housemates at time was when we on black ops 1/2 and Skyrim for a few years. Great great times
Currently few years my fav games have been sniper elite 5 / mech warrior 5 mercenaries / battlefield 1 and probably space marine
Got to play eye of beholder 3 / space marine 3 currently playing Batman Arkham knight as never played it first time round |

It depends on what you mean really.
Pong was probably instrumental in creating popularity of computer gaming.
Wolfensteind 3D pushed the boundires, as did Doom, which really set chnged PC gaming for decades.
Elite, was the first, on one of the first games to be open ended and not a typical platformer or arcade style game. It was also 3D (technically).
Point and click adventures games were huge for a time. From "Kings Quest", to "Monkey Island" to the recent "Thank Godness You're Here".
Its also worth mentioning Games such as "Transport Tycoon" and Roller Coaster Tycoon", with still influence many modern games.
And lets not forget about "SIm City" either. Another genre defining game.

Ah man what a tough question!
There's so many good ones.
I'm gonna go Witcher 3, purely because the world building was incredible. Every sidequest was fleshed out and meaningful. The scenery was gorgeous. Everything just felt ahead of it's time. Played it again recently and I'll admit the combat and horse mechanics are showing their age but still.
But I mean it's just so hard to choose. Red Dead 2, Mass Effect, Metal Gear Solid (1 was the best, change my mind).
Aren't we spoiled as gamers eh. |
