I've noticed somewhat of a recurring trend (not singling anyone out; just a general sweeping observation) where people will post details of a conundrum to the forums asking for opinions and advice, and then spend the entire thread defending their own opinion or rejecting the advice.
Surely the intention of posting was to gather the insight of a wide spectrum of people and perspectives, in order to support in refining one's own stance or perspective, or find a new approach to tackling said conundrum? If that were not the case, surely the opening post would make it clear that no opinion bar those reflecting their own would heretofore be allowed in the thread? Otherwise, what's the point?
To that end, I would like anyone who posts a reply on this thread to wholly agree with me. I shall not be supporting naysaying or contradiction of any kind. My verdict is final.

I think often people want to get something off their chests and the forums are an easy place to do it.
Or they want to get others to agree with them. Pretty sure I’m guilty of this one at times!
Or it’s just wanting to create some friction.
People gonna people!

They could always add an additional layer of obfuscation. E.g. accusing those whom have differing persepvtives of going off on a tangent or derailing a thread.
I think the tendency to confirm one's own bias is something of a norm. Not many people are geared toward open explorative discussion of a subject. Which can make it quite a challenge at times, but often entertaining. |

I've seen this a few times now that you mention it. I've noticed it with posts that have a political leaning, like the OP claims to be neutral and asking for other people's views, but they already have an (unpopular) opinion, and are often waiting for someone else to say it first before backing them up and arguing with others. Usually the OP isn't interested in a discussion unless the replies fit his way of thinking, and like you say, they spend more time arguing and defending their viewpoint than taking any advice or opinions on board. It's definitely a weird trend on this forum |

Excuse me. I was very clear on this. Disagreeing with me is illegal.
