Side hustles
Jump to: Newest in thread
Over the past couple of years I have heard this saying pop up more and more.
People needing second jobs or something to provide a second income. Years ago people use to do this to afford luxury’s like nice cars and holidays, now it seems they do it just to survive.
Do you have a side hustle? Have you had one in the past? I don’t at the moment but definitely something I’m considering. |

"...so, in essence, this is like having a second job?
Is "having a second job" an archaic term that we no longer use? "
Hahaha I wonder the same thing!
Though some people call a “side hustle” or “passive income” all sorts of MLM crap, for example.
I don’t have a second job. I barely have energy to do one! |

In 2022 I started my own property company to buy and rent out houses. I got up to two and then that prick Putin invaded Ukraine and Liz ‘I’m a colossal fucking moron’ Truss published her doomed mini budget. Those two single handedly fucked global economics and ruined my business. I had to wind it up in 2023 and sold everything. That was a side hustle which was intended to be turned into a primary hustle and early retirement gig. |

Sure I may be working at this police station as a mild-mannered janitor but I become a crime-fighting canine by sneaking into the hidden room behind the vending machine, then jumping into the bottom drawer of a filing cabinet (must do something about that sticking drawer) coming out of the top drawer, sliding down an ironing board, bouncing off an old sofa, through an open window, into a dumpster outside were I keep my Phooeymobile… |

I had a side hustle that became my job! I have a male stripper company as a side business really and the guys working on that all have weekday jobs and do this for extra cash and fun
I do some side hustles still! Always good to try different things and learn new skills |

I find it so sad that many of us need these side hustles to try and keep our quality of life! I’m in the same spot!
And then the government comes down and adds hardcore tax collection on any funds you make extra on any online platform! You’re best doing cash only gigs. If anyone wants a lap dance or a cock tease let me know deffo do a good price for a can of beans for dinner or something, any payment Keir can’t nab off me would be best |

Being single I can say that the increases in Taxes this country has gone through has caused a lot of people to reevaluate how they live. Earning money to have a life outside of work is a bit of a pipe dream for most.
I work 2 full weekends every month just to have a life on the 2 weekends I have free! The term “living to work not working to live” springs to mind

Truss was a key driver in destroying the world economy? Nah, a very short term blip at most, there were much bigger forces in play … energy and Ukraine |

Always on hand to piss all over everyone’s chips aren’t you
If you read what I wrote it specifically mentions the Ukraine invasion.
And not that I owe you any more of my time, but a short term blip is all it took to knacker my plans.
Still, thanks for being here in your usual convivial mood. I shall refrain from writing what I actually think for fear of making you cry. |

Here is how side hustles work, in my opinion.
Step 1. Create a TikTok/YouTube/social media post or article saying you earn beaucoups of bucks per month and it's SO EASY.
Step 2. Tell people all they have to do is buy your course to learn how to make the SUPER EASY RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF MONEY.
Step 3. Make all your money from desperate people buying your course, but make the people believe that it's coming from dropshipping/copywriting/selling digital products/crypto etc etc |

Through most of my 20 and early 30s i had two jobs 60ish hours a week. In recent years im on a steady one full time job 40 ish hours. For me as someone from eastern Europe it wasn't a choice. When monthly wages for full time job wont cover you rent mentioning bills food ect. So its more lack of choice. I think times got harder here in UK but if i think out of my perspective its not that bad. But i have different standards what's good or bad. If you got roof over your head and food on your table your good. Car holidays are things extra. If you work part time and need a side job but you work circa 40 hours you still do what most ppl do in one job.

I make money from videography (when I find contracts I like)
I used to buy and sell.
I’m getting quite into 3d design and 3d printing currently so I’m creating a few things to sell.
There are tonnes of ways to make some side money.
I’d work out your strengths and find out how you could apply them to a side hustle.
If you need any advice let me know on here and I’ll unblock geezers from the inbox. |

Plus side hustle and second job are two different things. For example me working in an call centre and had a second job with steady hours as a bartender is a second job. Now working as a bartender and picking up some extra shifts once in a while is side hustle. |

Why would I cry? Strange suggestion.
Seriously though, if you’re trying to blame truss for wrecking the global economy, that’s a hell of a stretch. It was a very short term blip. |

So you’re saying “side hustle” is more casual and informal than a 2nd job? I thought it was just the modern term for the same thing |

In a way yes and no. I remember term side hustle used both situations. Its more second job can be a side hustle but you wouldn't call all side hustles second job. For example you make some money on a side selling some stuff on ebay makes you money. But you wouldn't call it a job |

I do stuff that's not my main job, but from home, usually in November - January or February. It's kinda related to my main job, but completely separate. I earn a decent amount for that too but not doing it this year (boo). I'm also looking at taking another occasional extra thing that's paid by the day. |

Pahahaha, I wish! No. I assess academic stuff online (can't say much more without saying too much!) |

Every hustle is a side hustle now. There is no security when it comes to work. What is given with one hand is taken away with the other and the goalposts shift whenever it suits.
Having ones fingers in several pies is the only way to mitigate risk. |

Not now but when I was younger with kids and no money I had all kinds of side hustles from buying and selling graphic design and code on Fiverr, buying /selling rare books, importing wIi from Germany when they all sold out in the uk and breeding / selling aloe Vera plants on Facebook ! |

I did it out of pure need - I never had job insecurity I just needed more cash and I didn’t know any better.
I think putting the same focus/effort into a career brings far better rewards and security but it’s the long game and young people don’t like that |

What's Fiverr like? I've tried Upwork but I had a bad experience where I accepted a job but the requirements kept changing/the client was just generally woefully unprepared and unorganised. I ended up cancelling and it just put me off trying again as I wasted a lot of time. |

I've always had a side hustle.
Started when I was 15 or so, painting/customising skateboards and leather jackets.
Over the years this customising of peoples' stuff has helped pay the bills and paid for holidays when my regular jobs were only just keeping my head above water.
These days I paint more old school stuff; Kustom Kulture style.
It's something I love and don't ever see stopping.

I go to the pub to play with my wood occasionally...
Works well as a side hustle and certainly in the run up to Christmas, sell my wares and often leave having but brought a drink and with more cash than I went in with |

I use Upwork as my main place for videography work.
The main problem is, freelancers outside of the uk/us will fulfil contracts for far less than we will.
Clients get used to asking for the world on there and paying between 1-5 dollars an hour for that privilege.
And they get it.
Also as a freelancer your reputation is everything.
To keep a good rep on there you do have to bend to the clients will a little bit as there are 1000’s of freelancers who will if you don’t.

I don't believe in second jobs. Tax man gets his greedy hands on it and we pay enough as it is.
Whe are all in a trap to the wage and although it's a necessity. We have only one life don't dig yourselves an early grave. |
