"dont think a gun pic is suitable in this country . we are lucky that guns are not such objects of desire as they are in the states " I know what you mean. That said I tried very hard to not let my boys have guns (toys) when they were children in the vague and misguided hope they would be growing up as pacifists. Well, it turned out that no matter how hard you try as a mum to avoid giving them guns to play with they will make up their own pretend guns from all sorts of things. I guess what I am saying is that we cannot avoid the issue completely - would be nice if we could though.

Guns as in firearms? People do that?
Wow, I got a rifle, but the last place I'd want to advertise that there's guns in my house is on a site where I'm lookin to get laid...

"what guns do you want to see .. sure we all like james bond flashing his ppk and a purdey looks classy but we dont need pics of semi automatics splurged everywhere with mmm buy me all over them " Why? I think you need to educate yourself, your argument is poor at best. |

Ok, MrWho up there has a gun on his profile pic. He's not a nutter, his posts at least, show that. It's a hobby.
Theres a guy on here with his naked body dancing on top of an aeroplane. How's that for weird?
There's a sexy lady with a spaghetti spoon on her nipple....normal or what?
All subjective..... |

I shoot in this country (at one point for this country). I have the highest licence that a regular citizen can hold. I shoot target and field, its perfectly legal and good exercise, plus, it puts food on my table.
My avi pic was taken in the States btw, I took my children to a range and we all spent a great day there... |

I think it takes "This is my rifle, this is my gun - This is for fighting, this is for fun" a bit far!
Perhaps those sort of pics are better suited to Janes Weekly, or Craigslist? |

However Mr Who's photo shows him shooting at a range, displaying that yes its a hobby and then he's responsible enough to use it in a controlled environment.
I thought you peeps were talking about people taking photos of themselves lobbing their cocks out next to a freakin Kalashnikov |

The question is why would anyone post a picture of themselves holding a gun on a site like this? It is surely going to put people off?
As for banning it....what would that achieve? If you don't like it or agree with it simply steer clear...... and then come bitch and moan about it on here |

There are a lot of forces guys on here that have pics of themselves in their uniforms and with their guns, personally it's just a pic of them at work so no issue from my side, no diff to a plumber with a wrench. However is a random man was posing with a firearm I'd be concerned x |

I'm from rural Leicestershire and grew up around shotguns and rifles. The parachute regiment trained me to very high standards and before the ban I owned 3 handguns.
Now I own a couple of rifles and shotguns, all of my kids shoot too. It's a family bonding sport and the meat is better than you find in Tesco! |

Thing is...really it is not the weapon that s the problem. It is whoever is owning and using it. Bit like alcohol/ gambling etc not being a problem, only to those who cannot handle it. |

Why?
I spend a hell of a lot on my cabinets, they're dual security and the guns are broken down with different parts in different cabinets. I have other cabinets for ammo and they're located where no one would normally go in my house.
It's highly unlikely that anyone I meet would know where they were, how to access them and how to rebuild them. |

yes and yet again the law abiding get shat on because of one nutter. Even though handguns are now illegal, gun crime is rising. So it turns out most criminal gun users were unlikely to register ownership anyway! Who knew???! |

I wasn't meaning for a conversation about how valid guns are or the person holding them just are pictures of them appropriate on a site like this as for somebody saying that if its their job it's different well I have a mate that's a butcher but I'd advise him again having half a cow as his profile pic same as I'd tell a funeral director that a coffin isn't ideal |

Whilst I understand that when on active duty there is a requirement to carry your weapon I'm reasonably sure there isn't a requirement to take a picture of yourself with it and post it on a swingers site, I could be wrong I will check with my colleague in the morning as to the regulations regarding that when he left the Cheshire regiment however that was a couple of years back and it might have changed |

You get what I mean though 99% of people don't include the tools of their trade and ok take pics of you with your gun but why on here unless to appear macho

im with you on that .. we have friends who had a farm and fully licenced gun and two young sons .. they were fully responsible and kept the ammunition away from the guns in storage but one day something went wrong .. the bottom line was one son shot the other son dead trying to play cowboys and Indians .. mistakes do happen |

Semi-auto shotguns with a capacity of no more than 3 rounds are legal. Rifles (as I stated) cannot be semi automatic or self loading. Read the 1996 UK gun law amendment.

Guns and knives are offensive weapons so I can see why they wouldn't be allowed on here.
It does seem unfair though that knife pictures have been removed but guns allowed.

I would say it depends on the picture, lots of army boys on here with pics in their uniforms holding guns, those type pics don't put me off and don't see why they should be banned at all.
As for the guy that said gun pics should be banned in uk, ridiculous statement to make when the government supply guns to our troops, armed forces etc.

I suppose in some ways that's a valid point of _iew and I can respect that. But it can also be a matter of perspective and accessibility. If the pic is taken in a controlled environment depicting the safe use of the gun then I don't see why it can be considered an offensive weapon.
Then you have the accessibility issue. Gun licences are incredibly difficult to obtain in this country (and rightfully so), whereas you can pop to Tesco and purchase a razor sharp 12" knife 24hrs a day without question.
As I stated previously, I didn't post my pic for macho reasons, I simply posted it because I, personally, like the pic and hadn't seen one similar elsewhere on the site.
Also I like the way my grey t-shirt clings to my shoulders and matches my jeans! |

that's made me smile. I agree with your point too. Your gun pic is showing a hobby that you have and I agree its very sexy. There's nothing like a man standing there, deadly weapon in hand, muscles flexing etc. Just like Cute's knife pics were part of an avatar challenge, it doesn't mean that if you meet these people you are likely to be cut or shot at.
Visually weapons make great props in pics, its a contrast between sex and danger and shock value and that makes for an interesting pic. I'm personally not offended by seeing them but I can see why websites don't allow them because its kind of a promotion of them and a glamorisation of them

I think safe use of them should be promoted whenever possible. Gun is a dirty word in this country, especially since Dunblane and Hungerford and many people fear them and for good reason as misuse has tragic consequences. But I also feel that educating people about them and their practical uses will help reduce the fear of them and raise understanding of a sport/hobby that I have enjoyed since I was a child... |

Yes i think they should not be allowed. Remember the grief helen flanagan got for posing with a gun i fail to see why there is difference between being wrong in paper and here both are in effect public forums.
How often do you hear of nutters killing folk nowadays not in anyway saying the member posing with gun is nutter but why do it in first place? |

There are many profile pics, and profiles that would put us off, but would not seek to get them banned or raise the content on the forums, would just look at the next profile. |

I think Helen Flanagan's pics showed very poor judgement, either on her part or the part of her management. They were released a few days after the school shooting in America and the poses displayed a blatant misuse of a gun.
Personally I was disgusted with them, she deserved the flak she took for them... |

North of The Wall - youll need your vest |
Ive been trying to find a response from HPC in a thread about this before but I cant find it.
If I remember correctly she said that Admins _iew was that having a gun in the pic was ok as long as it was in the context of someone going about their daily business e.g. soldier in uniform, and as long as displaying the gun wasnt the main purpose of the pic.
If the purpose of the pic is just a pose with a gun then it wasnt allowed.
But dont quote me on that.
And as always if you think a pic is a bit dodgy just report it to Admin and let them have a look at it. |

Soldiers with their guns or like the pic on this thread are fine... Pics of people in their boxers pointing a gun at a mirror while taking the photo in their bedroom wouldn't be.
As for knives, I doubt Admin will let them on at all. |

Fully understandable really. Shows a blatant disregard for their own safety and glorifies everything those of us that shoot are trying to move away from. |

Welcome to the gun show... I assumed this thread was about biceps.
People pose with firearms? Not a fan but couldn't care less. My brother is in the forces.
He sometimes poses with guns. Not a big deal to me. |

So a picture of someone cooking, using a knife to cut up veg whilst wearing a chefs hat is still not acceptable then, or someone fencing, but someone holding a gun ready to fire at a target is?
Its a strange ruling, guns being deemed more appropriate than knives, but if that is the rule then so be it. I don't have a problem with pics of either guns or knives but I'm surprised that both are not treated equally |

I am sure you could guess in which context a knife would be deemed not suitable.
If you want to know why the rules are how they are then thats one for Admin as I am following and repeating them and not making them |

Funny, SLR's are illegal in this country, any semi automatic rifle is...
no, any FULLY automatic rifle is.
Bolt action only now I'm afraid, no semi auto.as u are a shooter i would expect you too know the law slightly better semi auto guns are legal i hve some, shot guns and rifles . fully auto not legal
Semi-auto shotguns with a capacity of no more than 3 rounds are legal. Rifles (as I stated) cannot be semi automatic or self loading. Read the 1996 UK gun law amendment.
" semi auto shot guns no more than 3 shots unless on a fire arms liscense, then u can have 10 if u want.

Don't have a problem ... Plenty people put pics on of themselves and cars... If the car is legal that's cool... If you have a shotgun and firearm certificate that's the same... Your legal... Some people may not like it but some other people may not like pictures of anal sex etc |

Im in the same position as the poster who replied above... Funny ... When the chief constable granted my licences you would have thought he would know the law better than the general public.... Cars are also deadly weapons in the wrong hands !!! |

"Not sure if it’s a good idea to advertise the fact that you may have firearms at home in an open forum"
Nobody mentioned I had firearms at home... You only made the assumption... And your licence does not specify that the are stored at your home.. |

But they were not invented and designed to be - unlike the gun which has, as it's primary purpose, the ability to kill. The primary purpose of a car is transportation. |

"dont think a gun pic is suitable in this country . we are lucky that guns are not such objects of desire as they are in the states
I shoot in this country (at one point for this country). I have the highest licence that a regular citizen can hold. I shoot target and field, its perfectly legal and good exercise, plus, it puts food on my table.
My avi pic was taken in the States btw, I took my children to a range and we all spent a great day there..."
Maybe the picture on those profiles mentioned were at a James Bond fancy dress or similar fantasy scenario.
I too have a NRA (USA) handgun licence which is easy enough for anyone to get and I have photos taken on a firing range in the US, if I was working for an extended time in the states after a month can legally carry ( anyone could do this with a days training and exam). I carry and display and use swords for entertainment and education .....but I am not a violent person and would never think of using in anger even if working in my Close Protection role in this country..... My biggest weapon is my vocabulary but should this stop me taking pictures of my mouth? |

Lol maybe. Some of the bs I've seen written to impress women and I have to say by women to impress men, nothing would surprise me. |
